I’m absolutely gutted, one of the greatest songwriters of all time.

He certainly lived life to the fullest!

Legend. Get him donated to medical science, mix his DNA with Keith Richards' and witness the dawn of a new age of genetic Supermen.

Another part of my youth gone
    Unbelievable song writer
And as this is a football forum fair to say he certainly left everything on the pitch

RIP Shane MacGowan, a great songwriter and performer

Loved his Irish folky stuff and Christmas wouldn't be the same without "Fairytale of New York", .

Ghost with Sinead O’Connor is one of my favourite songs of all time, rainy night in Soho, Broad Majestic Shannon, also simply fantastic. RIP Shane McGowan

The real characters are all going and leaving us with 'world famous' nobodies.

RIP Shane ... his Christmas song will bring a few tears this year.

Not wanting to get off topic but by god your right, I couldnt tell you who was number 1 or even in the top 10. I could almost rattle the top 40 off when I was younger.
This time of year was also great, the race to be Xmas No1 was brilliant, nobody seems to care anymore
    Again RIP Shane .

Touched me much more than it probably should this one. The Pogues and Shane leave such a musical legacy. As other have said the man was a genuine poet, stunning.

RIP Shane - gone but never forgotten.

Beautiful tribute to Shane MacGowan sung at his funeral by Imelda May and Declan O'Rourke

Very emotional TC, When Glen Hansard backed by all of those great musicians did Fairy Tale of New York and some of the congregation got up to dance did it for me.
