You old gits aren't half boring when you get to remiscing. Apparently it's between David Attenborough and Ross Kemp to replace Gudgin
Oi less of the 'old' - perfectly acceptable aimed at Cym, but I'm still 30 something (just....) I'd love to hear David Attenborough reading the results or David Bellemy
Last of the old guard. Brian Moore, Dan Maskall, Harry Carpenter, John Arlott, brian Johnson, Ted Lowe, Bill Mclaren Eddie Waring. These men bought sport into our homes for decades. As Piskie says, they are part of the fabric of our lives and take us back to, if not happier, then definitely more simple times. The end of an era. I hope Tim Gudgin, the voice of football and the destroyer of a billion pools coupons, has a long and happy retirement.
Brian Moore was another favourite of mine - I think John Motson is probably the last of the old guard left now.
One person I don't miss commentating is Barry Davies. I used to find his voice really annoying and his analysis patronising.
We could make a Not-606 soap opera. The script for episode 1 is right here... PISKIE & Ensil announce that they are long-lost brothers in an emotional reunion.
Agree with that. Motson seems like a nice enough bloke, but I have always found his commentary pretty dull. Longevity seems to be the reason he is liked and talked about when people talk about commentators from past and present.
To add to the co-incidences here, I used to go a school in Dulwich (John Wycliff it was called in those days). I then went to South London College in West Norwood and my closest friend used to live opposite Hornimans park in Dulwich/Forest Hill - he reckoned Dulwich, the rest of us thought Forest Hill. Was more interested in the Grove (before it became a Harvester ) and the Forest Hill Tavern. Didn't like to go to Hornimans, not after my sleding accident
Blimey - there's more ex Lewisham residents on this thread than you can shake a stick at. Shouldn't we all be Crystal Palace/Millwall/Charlton supporters.....?
