That’s a real shame. With his contract up at the end of the season that coukd well be his Liverpool career over. Huge risk to give him a new one. Maybe could come to some agreement on a short 1 year deal on massively reduced wages to see if he recovers. Be sad to just let him leave in that way
With Konate picking up knocks on a regular basis it does leave us short back there. Quansah looks like a real talent but shouldn't be playing regular football for us yet. The January transfer window might be interesting.
Not sure what’s up with Diaz. Hasn’t quite kicked on this season yet, doesn’t look like he can go past players like he was when he first joined.
I had to laugh at whoever the ex-Sheffield player was saying to Klopp at the end of the game that our first goal shouldn't have stood because 'Van Dijk once again with a sneaky foul'. Obviously these players are partisan but it clearly wasn't a foul and I can't recall Van Dijk ever doing a sneaky foul let alone another one. Call it a foul if you think that's what it was but no need to be snide. I thought the gulf in ability between the two teams was huge as evidenced by the constant pullbacks and shoulder charges as Sheffield just couldn't keep up. Salah played most of the game wearing a human backpack.
basically I'd call whoever that was a ****ing hypocritical scumbag for daring say that to klopp while maccallister got two leg break tackles and they chested and time wasted all night. they pulled, dragged, held and pushed us over on every single set piece and the ref ignored everything. then they complain about their lad running into gakpo? enjoy league 1 cos that's where you are heading would be my response.
I've never checked their league position finish and I know they came up via the playoffs but did Sheffield finish 6th and a lot of points behind 2nd?
I know, having listened to a piece about them on Monday night Club, that they weren't expecting to be promoted last year.
I believe Macallister got his knee sliced open which required stitches and was the reason he had to go off because they were pinching and restricting his movement. Other than that I don't think we picked up any other injuries which was very fortunate given the pub team tackles that were flying in.
He made one major and visible error in the first half. Other than that, I don't recall anything specifically bad about his performance either. Not as good as Tsimi but played his part OK.
Yeah tbf that mistake was early on and made me focus on him a bit to see if he was generally off it but didn't really notice anything as bad afterwards
remember who we were playing. gomez at lb = no mistakes but accept there won't be width in attack. we'll there was no width in attack but he dug in with the rest of them for the most part. konate at rcb made more errors but did a lot of work under the high hoofs etc. you want a good honest showing on a night like last night and obviously to take what comes your way.
I read that the EFL banned the use of towels for wiping balls before throw ins. I think the PL should do likewise. Why do they need towels when there are multiple balls waiting on cones? You could say what difference does it make but when the towels are only made available to the home team it looks like they are getting an unfair advantage.
to hoof it 30 yards it has to be dry. I agree the prem should just ban it but what 14 will vote for it? Sheff utd were just pressing for a throw to bomb one in. the thing about throws is the arc of ball is impossible to score off BUT you cannot be offside so you are looking for chaos. Footballs don't have grips but i am sure if a player wanted to they could wear a pair of gloves with grips to negate a towel ban. Would that be illegal? I could throw a basket ball nearly the length of the court no issue. Its not that hard but the ball angle is nothing like a real cross. Wilder is the last bastion of the scumbag type football it seems.
When you can wipe it on your shirt or pick up a clean ball there's no need for towels at all. It's all for show, like a look what we can get away with stunt and shouldn't be allowed. As you say, anything a player can wear like gloves should be ok but no other 'equipment' should be introduced. What next, players being handed some sort of stud/blade cleaning tool by a coach or ball boy midway through a game.
