The point is we probably won't "slip away" from Euro places. You don't tend to beat Arsenal, Villa, Man U, Chelsea to then just fade away. Players will come back, more will arrive in Jan and the most important factor is that there's a lot of quality at the top so there'll be a lot more L's than usual sprinkled about so nobody gets to run away with it. The highest placed side Man U have beaten was Chelsea - who are laughably bad, yet sit in 10th! Brighton have it in them to beat decent sides, as do Brentford, so just to say we'll fall away when we're beating those near or at the top is nuts.

For what it's worth I think we might enjoy ourselves against the Spurs high line. Everton, don't know. They're one of a number of tricky mid table clubs who can sometimes get the job done.

Newcastle will probably be out the top 4 race before they even get to January and look at January's fixtures.

They're one or two injuries away from complete annihilation in almost every match until February.

Newcastle's best XI: Pope - Trippier, Schar, Botman, Livramento - Tonali, Bruno, Joelinton - Almiron, Isak, Gordon
Newcastle's current XI: Dubs - Trippier, Lascelles, Schar, Livramento - Miley, Bruno, Joelinton - Almiron, Isak, Gordon

Barnes, Willock, Longstaff, Botman all back within a fortnight into the festive schedule. Anderson and Wilson shortly after. Spurs is the only fixture to worry about til Jan 1st. Don't really count Milan, what will be will be.

Going to be really interesting to see if we've grown up in the transfer market and where we sit financially. I've found some of our work to be a bit ploddy. The move for Barnes was particularly insipid. For all we have players coming back it's absolutely clear we need a centre back, right winger, left back and probably a goalkeeper. And we need them available straight after the L'pool match.

It's easy to say that but it depends on where you get injuries which is impossible to predict. Newcastle have Gordon and Barnes competing for that position and somewhere down the line it'll be Gordon injured and Barnes won't be.

The man in the street has this 'just get him' or 'anyone will be better than' attitude and unfortunately the market isn't like that and the club are looking at specific targets and a long term solution/vision.

I agree we need a cb but I guess the right one wasn't possible and they filled another position because the player was simply feasible to sign at that moment in time.

Ultimately Newcastle have nearly 2 players that are as good as each other in most positions, but if they lose Guimareas trippier isak or Joelinton the house of cards will fall.

Newcastle are presently on their last stand squad wise.

Livermento is Tripps ready made replacement so don't agree with that one though I'll concede they will miss the leadership on pitch. Isak gets injured Wilson comes in so again not in agreement there, Joelinton gets injured and Willock comes in. Most the walking wounded back between now and Jan.

Personally think we need a new first choice experienced left back that Hall can learn from. A speedy young right winger, another centre back (Todibo my first choice but will go to Man Utd) and a young striker capable of playing.

Did I not read somewhere that Minteh will be recalled,if so that'll be the speedy right winger.

Then you agree mate because we have more than one capable player for right back and if Livramento goes right back you're playing Hall at left back or burn.

The point I'm making is that Newcastle has recruited well because they have depth and unfortunately the fans have this reactive nature.

If Gordon got injured and Barnes was playing well they'd say the Gordon money should have gone on a cb. If Botman and burn weren't injured and almiron was they'd be saying we should have spent the Hall money on a right winger.

All the signings are required and not every position can be filled over night .The cb and rw signings will happen it comes down to patience which was advised to us all from day 1.

I'm talking injuries right now and willock and Wilson are injured mate.
