“Kim Hellberg is currently taking over as the new head coach in Hammarby. But according to Sportbladet's information, he is also on English Sunderland's list of possible coaches - where he will have a meeting with the club on Thursday.”

Aye apparently he had been offered that job weeks ago but didn't happen. Wonder if SAFC made their interest known?

From what I can see and read about Hellberg he is a bit of a genius when it comes to in possession set up but out of possession is a bit of an issue, especially counter attacks. Considering that was an issue under Mowbray that worries me a bit and we would definitely need to strengthen in the defensive midfield department. Looks extremely promising though.

We’ve scored 6 goals from set pieces this season defo better than last but considering we’ve had the 2nd most corners in the league behind Southampton iirc we still look hopeless, one of the lowest aerial duel win %age in the league again. Ironically the 3 teams with the best are Leicester, Ipswich and Leeds who sit at the top of the table.

Whoever we get has to have a plan b and maybe even a plan c. The football we played under Mowbray is the best I've ever seen in 40 years of supporting Sunderland.
I can accept us sacrificing the attacking intent a bit as long as we tighten up at the back and have other weapons in our armoury when walking the ball into the net isn't working

Hellberg eh? My opinion - gutsy by Speakman and KLD any appointment like this. Credit to them for that. Goes without saying could go either way and I trust them enough to back it. I do have reservations though. There seems to be a growing pressure and expectation on results at our club, with promotion seemingly expected. I think that is a big ask for anyone, but for an inexperienced gaffer even more so. I really hope they are giving someone like him beyond 18 months to do the job. If they are determined promotion must come soon then they arent backing that up with actions, in my opinion anyway.

All that said I do understand his reputation. And that of Still. There is ambition in appointing them, I just question whether we as a club, and our squad, currently fit to a really inexperienced coach. Time will tell, but it will be really intriguing.

On a side note I am big fan of Swedish footballing mentality, and their coaching. So that works for me. Lars Lagerback is in my top 10 favourite coaches. They have a real history of football punching above their weight. Oh, and Stefan Edberg is my favourite tennis player <laugh>

Hellberg has had a similar rise to Potter in Swedish football going from lower league to the top tier fairly quickly. Will definitely need time though, Potter finished mid table in the championship with Swansea.

this is an honest question, not a dig, so hope it doesn’t come across as such. But you seem to think Swansea have made a good appointment with somebody who has never managed but think we are taking a risk if we employ either Still or Hellberg as they’re inexperienced managers. Is that just an English football experience thing, or are you just seeing them as different to us?

I’d be surprised if they weren’t confident of having someone by the end of the week. They didn’t need to sack Mowbray there wasn’t a lot of pressure from fans to do it, so I’d be surprised if they hadn’t identified someone and had confidence they’d be interested.

noticed the odds have not moved an inch all day until just now with hellberg moving into second favourite. As usual since KLD has came things are kept quiet so doubt anyone really has any idea of who we are after hence little movement in the betting

Hellberg is a free agent I believe, think his contract ran out at IFK Värnamo when the season ended last month.
