As I said we had made big stable strides under Nige-then JL wanted to show his authority and move Nige on. Well if you think this guy has the Experience of Nige and knowledge you are mistaken. The side looks clueless and players are a fraction of what they were. We have gone back 4/5 years I would say. Really think the owners have lost the plot.
It’s almost like people have forgotten we’ve played Norwich at home already this season and managed one shot on target. I liked Nige but people on here and OTIB are looking back with rose tinted glasses. Watching the game yesterday we did play around the back, but if you watched the line was going up the field slowly. We played round at the back with Nige, then we hoofed it down a channel in hope. Sykes did play left side yesterday, but if watching it the ball was down that side moving Norwich over. Then when Sykes came right side so did Knight and blindsided Norwich who were still on the left. We scored and also when they caught on TGH had room to come in and shoot. We do struggle with after the breaks for some reason. Idah was fast and trying to push forward is a risk with players of his speed, for a ball over the top. Onto JL and BT, I didn’t agree with the sacking, but if one of my team kept on poking me into a reaction in work, there would probably be the same outcome. We can either bore each other to death harping on about top six bollocks until the next manager appointment. Or accept we can’t change it and get behind the current manager instead of wanting him out after four games like some on social media doing.
I don’t think anyone on here wants LM to get the sack We’re all City fans at the end of the day and are desperate for any sort of success, but we reserve the right to criticise the owners who are clueless
Yes, before COVID hit, and in an attempt to get back to the PL. Their budget is minimal now compared to 3-4 years ago. Newsflash, City weren’t the only ones affected!!
LM has been handed a poisoned chalice. The decision, on the face of it, to sack NP was ridiculous.........unless there's another reason they're not making public why JL made such an unfathomable decision. I have no issue with LM (at the moment) it's JL and Tinnion I will continue to criticise.
I don'tthink LM has had a chance to stretch his legs yet, he is being quiet, diplomatic, obviously dancing the Lansdown tunes, like others I'm giving him time, at least he hasn't come in bleating European football or making false dawns, he has issues, he has to cope, don't forget he has got a daddies boy for a boss and Tinman who is hanging around the Lansdowns like a coathanger in an old wardrobe, still where ever I lay my hat I suppose,
As said end of Jan 2024 will give us an indication what he is about. At present I’m not convinced the Lansdowns have done the right thing. But let’s wait and see.
RR - you're right, we have to wait and see. If the decision was not football related, then I can understand. Otherwise I will call out it was a terrible decision.........'a squad who should be doing better' / 'under trained' etc etc . JL's treating fans with contempt.
Having heard all of the promises, and the following lack of completion, has made me tired of listening to the same old rubbish year after damned year. Buried in most of these false promises I have rarely seen any mention of us, the supporters, and what they have done for that vital component in the success of Bristol City which makes me think that this is all about personal egos rather than solid business acumen. I don't really give a rat's backside about other clubs and their successes and failures under this or that manager because the only thoughts in my mind are solely for my team and given that dynamic it is beholden to me to support whatever person is in place until such time as the wick has totally burned out. Liam is in a predicament trying to pick up the pieces from a popular manager who although he wasn't getting the results needed he had done some remarkable re-adjustment of the salary situation and cleared out some bad karma. However right now we have so many players that are not up to the job and I know I could have made that same comment last year and the year before that, and so on. We all know we are not a destination of choice for players wishing to hit the top level and it almost looks as if we have transferred that same negativity in managerial terms and that was why Nigel was treated by us like football royalty. Nigel has now left the building and I for one wish him all the best in his life and hope his health concerns get sorted to allow him to come back into the sport he absolutely loves and in which he thrives. If I am brutally honest I have lost most of my love for the team I have supported all my life and the more important aspects of life take on greater importance as you grow older, and for me in particular at this time my wife Ann's health issues are making me re-focus on her. This might mean I will possibly be less visible off and on for a while but in all honesty this site is a great place to chat with similar footballing minds and that is a bonus.
I don't blame you Mike I hope Ann's health situation improves and you re-discover your love of City, difficult though it is at times I confess !
I think the defeat to Norwich was down to individual errors on the pitch, not tactics. We didn’t sit back at 1-0 up, we just couldn’t get the second. Under Nige it appeared to me that we would sit back and park the bus at 1-0 at times. Who knows, maybe that might have worked this time? Impossible to say, but for me I like us to attack. There have been many times under Nige when we have let a lead slip - at the dying minutes.
the realism of attack it stops the opposition getting "more of the ball" but unless you score having let the backdoor a bit open whilst you do opposition can sneak one! Opposition playing away that 1 goal could be the point [s ] they come to get! we lose 2 they gain 1
This has been a big problem for us over the last 18 months. Massive mistakes by, Naismith, Atkinson, Tanner, Vyner and Pring, as well as Max, have cost us valuable points in this period.
Many don’t feel there was a need for change, yet. It’s happened so we move on, but if things don’t improve from before change was forced on us fans will again question why it happened, it’s not about Nige, it’s about the wellbeing of our club. You are missing the point, we know it’s happened, we are questioning the decision making at the top of our club, of course we want BCFC to be a success whoever the manager is.
My thoughts exactly. I wasn’t overly in love with Nige unlike some on here, but still think his sacking was very harsh - if done for results reasons as per the official line. Not LMs fault though and I will support him - as I have all our managers without prejudice.
We did the young up and coming Head coach thing with LJ, threw a lot of money at it and it didn’t work. We then brought in an experienced head to steady the ship whilst we stabilised us as a club, both financially and behind the scenes. Having just about seen the fruits of the stabilisation period, we are once again embarking on the young experienced Head coach route. Don’t we ever learn anything. Who was it who said if you keep doing the same thing you will keep getting the same results, or something of that nature.
I will support him too, but he was given a poison chalice, i really hope it works, for the sake of the club. The decision making at the top was arrogant, people saw through the BS reason for the sacking, the club belongs to the fans, owners come and owners go.
