Bloody hell Tash. Kick a man while he's down why don't you. I do think this ball playing keeper is a load of crap TBF. Number one attribute by some distance is to keep the ball out of the net when it matters. Ok sure if you have a keeper who is a great shot stopper plus can ping it like Pirlo then great but where exactly are all these keepers apart from a couple of exceptions.

He has only let in 14 Premier League goals this season (i.e. 1 per game) so if he is letting in 0.7goals per game more than he should do that means we should only have conceded 4-5 goals. You sure about that statistic, and how you are interpreting it? It sounds way off.

This article suggests he is mid-table in performance, not 3rd bottom and I am not sure how meaningful that statistic is when Onana is ranked 3rd.

    https://www.givemesport.com/premier...xpected-goals/#thomas-kaminski-luton-town-4-5

My opinion is that he has been a vital component of our performance over the last two seasons and we will struggle without him for the next few months as Dubravka doesn't have the same presence.

Gossip linking us with De Gea today. Presumably, as he is a free agent, we could bring him in immediately.

He had beef with Schmeichel ****ing yonks ago, it's rumoured that Schmeichel knocked him on his arse in training

Ever since he's consistently said goalkeepers are overrated and crap.

He holds a grudge like <laugh>

Former Manchester United and Spain goalkeeper David de Gea, 33, is open to joining Newcastle as the Magpies consider bringing in the free agent as cover for injured England stopper Nick Pope, 31. (Telegraph - subscription required)

Ummmm.....dunno, Man U got rid for a reason. Ramsdale also rumoured but apparently we don't want pay £50m.

My mistake, the table I had was after first four games, apologies. So far, yes, seems he's mid-table performance. He has been vital in some ways so far, for sure, and if he wasn't injured wouldn't be a position I'd be keen to upgrade so soon. I'm also not overly obsessed about "ball playing" - however there's always a bit of worry when it's played back to him and his long balls rarely reach a Newcastle player, so it wouldn't be a bad thing to consider upgrading.

The way you have to look at Rambo is at £50m over a five year contract is £10m a season (+wages) is not bad for a very good, very young goalie. Eddie signed him at Bournemouth so knows him and trusts him. He is going to be at the top level for another 8-10 years, in the England squad for ages.

It's a tough one because its a few weeks until the window opens so you have a little time to think about it and get your scouting reports in but with 4 senior keepers at the club I'm not sure GK would have been a priority this soon so while I'm sure we have people scouring the world looking at options it's now going to be pushed into overdrive.

De Gea - I'm not against but he (or anyone else) can't be registered until January now so Dubz is number 1 until Jan 1st at a minimum and I think it's a cheap, short term fix but he would add some CL experience to the squad. Bar Trippier he may have more CL games on his own than the rest of the squad.

I thought De Gea could be registered as an emergency keeper due to being on a free

We have 3 more senior keepers (Dubz, Gillespie, Karius) registered already so I think you can only do it if you are out of keepers - same with CL you can register a keeper if all your registered keepers (Dubz and Karius) are injured but otherwise you use what you got.

Emergency only applies to loans under those terms. Free agents can be signed at any time.

I know that but I'm not sure they can be registered outside of the registration window for EPL and CL squads if you have currently registered player available to play.

Can free agents be signed after the transfer window is closed? Yes — a free agent can agree a contract with a club at any time throughout the year. However, they cannot necessarily play immediately after being signed. Although, in the Premier League, clubs have almost a fortnight to sign and register any free agents as the registration deadline for the 25-man squads is on Wednesday, September 13. Any players signed after that would have to wait until the next transfer window opens on January 1 to be included in the squad.

Ramsdale is worth £50m, but he won't want to trade bench for Arsenal for bench for us if Pope is going to be around for at least another 2 years plus.

Don't think if Ramsdale turns up he'll be benched, think Pope is then number 2 and plays cups etc.

Pope will be 32 (Rambo 26) by the time he's back, not old for a keeper granted but can we risk it hoping we get the current Nick Pope back after months out with a serious shoulder injury? Bit like Lejeune who was mentioned earlier - he had 2 cruciate injuries back to back and was never going to get back to his best.

Pope will take several months to be back on top form once he returns from injury and might never be the same depending on how successful the surgery is or if there are reoccurrences, shoulders are fragile things. He's missed 9 games in the last 4.5 years (~170 appearances in that time) so he's been consistent in his appearances and performances but now he has a 6 month lay off in front of him he will take longer to come back at the levels he's currently performing to - it's more than just the physical injury that's a concern.

Pope has had the same injury before so can come back from it. Just hope it’s not going to be an ongoing weakness

That's the fear! Do we know if it was the same shoulder? Bit like Murphy the other day (but obviously not as severe an issue for an outfield player) dislocated his shoulder, came back in a week but dislocated again almost immediately as the joint is weaker and more susceptible to injury now. Pope will need longer to recover and if it becomes an ongoing issue that'll be that for him as a first choice keeper.

I'd get John Burriidge back. He's available.
