If Coyle was that half witted about the decision then surely he would give it to Allsop to miss.

Personally I would go with the player most likely to score and had been practising successfully.

So you think we have only plan A for a penalty taker. How about before the game the coaches have a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice.
Come penalty time if 1st choice not on the pitch it automatically goes to player 2 and so on.
One would have thought in training they do a bit of practice kicking the ball at the goal, this should be the determining factor not who the captain thinks is having a good game, or sharing out the goals.

It would be as revolutionary as a quickly transitioning double pivot !

I think some get all their football tactics from playing this. upload_2023-12-5_11-38-59.png

A perfect example of how football should be played. Keep your shape and get it forwards.

I noticed the high press on the keeper so obviously the only way out is sideways then forward up the wings.

I'm not sure the problem on Saturday was failure to prepare. When the penalty was won Philogene immediately fetched the ball and looked determined to take it. It was only when Delap, and then Twine, came over and argued the toss about who should take it, I became sure we would miss it - because having to have that debate was bound to delay things, and put off the eventual taker.

So in summary, I think Delap and Twine should have backed off.

Doesn't really matter, it was a piss poor pen. But you're right on one sense, there should be absolutely no discussion on the pitch as to who takes the pen, the whole squad should know who's taking pens on any given match day.

On a side note, has philo scored a pen before?

Totally agree with you Liam knew in this case his primary penalty taker was on the bench so in this case he should have nominated his choice before the game if Tufan was still on the bench.

So you think the first one to fetch the ball should take the penalty?

Used to on the field round the back from me - unless it was someone else’s ball .

I love how some fans think the taker of penalties should be decided:
    1 Spread the goals around,
2 First one to fetch the ball, and
3 The player most likely to score.

Might as well play "next goals the winner" while we're at it

It was decided to give it to our top goal scorer, which is hardly a radical decision.

He's take three penalties in competitive games, Saturday's was the first one he didn't score.

It shouldn't be decided by the players on the pitch though as it happens, it should be fully agreed before the game starts to stop the potentially off-putting debate. I'm sure we'll learn from it and we won't see it again.

Well that's my point. It was pretty obvious that Philogene was the designated taker, his actions made that clear. It was the involvement of others that upset his flow, in my view.

If he was the designated taker then I dont think the other's would have tried to stop him
