I think it was Jackson who did the butthole shaving for Chavski. 3 goals did the trick. 2 of them when Spurs played a high back 3 on the halfway line with only 9 players on the park. I won't split hairs though, not while Sterling is shaving them.
Watched that game Bluey - it was indeed Jackson who got the 3 goals but it was Sterling who tore the holes for him. Must say I admired the way Igloo got his 9 man team to defend so high virtually on the half way line pushing Chelsea back - they did very well. Having said that, they were down to 9 players for a reason. Romero is a thug and got what he deserved whilst the other guy (can't think of his name) was throwing himself about so much he could have got 4 yellows not just 2.

A big broo ha ha over the 'advantage' for Haaland yesterday. Football has got itself in a right mess. The law makers are as culpable as the referees. I know a lot on here don't like egg, but it's use of advantage and video refereeing is light years ahead of the round ball. As is cricket. Advantage in football is a very short period. If the laws allowed a phase of play to develop before a ref had to blow, yesterday's issue could have been avoided. If Grealish had got the ball and had a run on goal, advantage over. If he got the ball and was imediately tackled or didn't get the ball, bring it back. But refs don't have that latitude. Same for VAR. Clear and obvious. The Chelsea offside against us some years ago, clear and obvious. If lines have to be drawn, re-drawn, checked for a nipple being in front of the line, NOT CLEAR AND OBVIOUS. Stick with the refs decision. The law makers, NOT the referees have got it wrong. Rugby can go through a couple phases of play. Advantage for a scrum different from advantage for a penalty. Cricket LBW. If an umpire gives out and ball tracking shows the ball nicking the stumps, not out. If a full ball impact, out. Conversely, if the ref gives out and the ball is sticking the stumps, out. Not a clear and obvious error. The drawing of lines is prone to error, so an error by VAR could over rule the ref. It's a crock of $h!t and it stinketh.
I totally agree with your parting shot Remote. I will check VAR for offside though. However I must query your point about advantage in egg chasing. While I rarely watch 15 a side all in wrestling, when I have seen it the time allowed for advantage appears, in some cases, to go on for ages not just a couple of phases. If the side fouled against can keep the ball live and the ref considers they are still on the offensive the advantage time appears almost interminable. Surely they should put a maximum time on the advantage period, say 10 to 15 seconds?
With scrum advantage, once a team crosses the gain line, advantage is over. If the team in possession is going backward the ref blows. No issue. I agree about penalty advantage though. It can go on too long. I agree there should be more guidance around how long it goes on. Territory gained, number of phases or time elapsed. It could be better, but it is still miles ahead of football. One shouldn't ignore the good in striving for the perfect. Oh, and if Haaland had gone at a rugby referee like he did yesterday, he'd have been sat on the naughty step for 10 minutes.
I hate VAR as much as I hate cricket & rugby video refereeing. The umpires just need to count to 6, signal boundaries and byes and then call over. They don’t bother checking for a no ball or a run out or stumping and leave it to the bloke on the monitor. Rugby is the same - endless waiting for marginal decisions. Football was fine thank you very much before VAR. It’s the rub of the green, swings and roundabouts, 6 of one half a dozen of the other and great post match talking points in the pub. In our last PL season we’d have lost the late winner by Bamba v BHA as his toe was offside and we’d have gained a win (possibly?) v Chelsea and had a few more penalties for Morrison being hauled over and v Watford but we didn’t and other bits and pieces but it was part of the rich tapestry of the beauty game.
There's very little waiting Nin. Most rugby checks go on in the background while the game goes on. Try decisions are a little different. The ref says try or no try, then they look for compelling evidence to overturn the ref's decision. If it's marginal, they stick with the on field decision. The other advantage with rugby is that the ref is miked up so you know what is going on and video replays are shown in the ground. Decisions are explained. As I said, look at what is good about it. And again, don't discard the good in searching for perfection.
