I’ll mention another one: David Marshall Even he would have ****ing dived for that **** the other day.
Couldn't get to the game on Saturday and have just watched the highlights. On the basis of those, we seemed very unlucky to lose, but as so often, our midfield did look vulnerable when someone really runs at them and in particular Seri just looks well off the pace if he loses the ball in midfield. And while Allsop made a couple of good saves, the first goal was v much in the middle of his goal. I increasingly think Ingram is the better shot stopper but the more nervous at playing out from the back. Be nice to have someone who was best at both! I'm also struck that for a right back, Lewie Coyle is very decent with his left foot.
Delap can dribble for sure, but doesn't know when to stop and pass the ball. He created first goal by himself, and caused last one to be conceded. Couple of runs was extremely dangerous, but instead of finding open man he tried to finish it himself. That's the change in football since 90's, when you dribble once, you already create enough space, someone else has to close you down and that means somebody is free, no need to go for 3rd and 4th, just pass the rock.
If thats the case with Tufan not being on the pitch at the time the penalty should have been taken byTwine.
It was telling that the team of the week put him on the right when he was supposed to be playing on the left - having said that he did his usual walk about and was way out of position for their first goal - maybe if he was where he was supposed to be they might not have had a clear shot on goal - I appreciate I'm a rather lone voice but when he's in the attacking half he's good value, conversely when he's defending he's a liability
Doesn’t really matter who takes them to me, but it’s more important, as @askewshair said, that they know who is taking one before they get one to avoid pissing about when it comes to it. Surely that’s standard?
Totally agree it should be decided by the manager before the match possibly at training so everyone knows.
Yes and no. If the manager nominates a player who is then playing poorly or doesn't feel up to it doesn't it make sense to be flexible in the moment? That being said I would have applied that to Philogene.
If your main pen taker isn't on the pitch, then it's down to the captain. Nowt wrong with the decision to give it to Jaden. Twine had already scored so that might have come into the thinking to share out the spoils. Either way the kid is bang in form, scoring for fun. Keeper guessed right and the rest is history. Too many people trying to micro analyse. Same with the Twine and Tufan debate when they have very different attributes so not really used like for like in our system. One's more technical and generally plays wide or false 9 reflecting perhaps his tendency to wing it a bit, but can be a match winner on his day. The other more disciplined and can run all day, plays best in the 10 - and is more trusted there because of the graft, even when he's not fully on song. Twine gives you a solid 6 or 7. Tufan is either an 8 or a 5. Both have something to contribute.
I disagree I think the manager should decide who is the primary penalty taker before the game. If that changes for some reason then fine, leave it to the captain’s plan B, but there’s enough going on at that moment for no one to be sure what plan A is.
