Wimbledon FC moved to Milton Keynes and changed their name to MK Dons Wimbledon FC supporters were not happy with that and created AFC Wimbledon who eventually regained their position back in the football league pyramid. Most lower league supporters supported the newly founded club and saw the club that moved to Milton Keynes as stolen. Hence the term the Real Dons.
I know mate my uncle supports mk dons because they moved there shortly after it was built . I was just aware any real Wimbledon fans would be annoyed.
I watched Wimbledon FC at Plough Lane, I've refused to ever go to MK Dons, such was the feeling at the time.
Yeah I remember that happening my uncle is just one of these support your local team blokes. He actually supports the toon at heart though.. I went there once I was like the fresh Prince of bell air or something.. was a really nice area.
Its all nice and new. Wimbledon was a ****hole and a ****ing horrid club that played horrid football with a bunch of horrid players. Romance around them is ****ing bollocks in my opinion, no one liked them one bit, not even enough fans to keep the lights on.
I think when it originally happened, it was quite a new thing for a club to be moving ground so far away. Since then lots of clubs have moved to new stadiums, so it's more common place. I remember when there were rumours that our previous chairman was going move our club to Rochester and it was like whoa, hang on there - then it was decided to move the club just a little further down the road but still in Gillingham, that never happened either lol.You have to remember with Wimbledon it was a difference of 80 miles, probably like moving Newcastle to York.
Well there's nowt glamorous about Newcastle, shhite ground that had a shhite owner that stunk the place out, now changed hands to a bunch of murderers. Be better off moving you to Leeds and slinging your backward club into Leeds United, prick.
and most Toon fans jumped ship at Sunderland for Prem Glory, which is why you see so many Newcastle fans at Sunderland games, because it's a real club.
