Incorrect, JL said we had a top 6 budget. He never said this current squad was top 6. Get it right. The inference here is, they think NP squandered the budget he was given. That seems a little unfair to Nige tbh. Apart from Matty James who we know is on the biggest weekly wage our club has ever paid a player, I thought the rest of the wages were inline nowadays….

You may be right, I thought they said the squad should be challenging top 6, the budget they quoted as being top 10, tbh Im cheesed off with them and really can’t be bothered to go back and double check. If they were suggesting he squandered the budget they really are delusional, and we are in even more trouble than I thought.JL shouldn’t be anywhere near running the club he’s got no idea whatsoever and I’m afraid BT is just a brown nose. I respect BT for what he did as head of recruitment, but now he is in way over his head.

You may want to check your right there.

Jon Lansdown stated that the budget was top ten. Jon Lansdown also stated the players have the ability to outperform that budget and the ambition is promotion.

Sorry, you’re right, he did say top 10 budget. That is open to interpretation, if JL means we have one of the top 10 budgets in this division, I’d be surprised, I’d say we are top 15 easily though. If he means, clubs with smaller budgets than us have made the top 10, so we should be able to as well, is a different point, and has merit.
As I said, it’s open to interpretation. Whether the players should be playing better than they are, well we really don’t know yet. They certainly didn’t at all under Nige, and in a few games for Liam so far, they have shown glimpses, but no more.

I see the knives are out for LM already, which is harsh after 4 games imho.

Harsh doesn’t even begin to cover it. He needs until the end of the season at least before he can be judged. He’s not had a transfer window, or pre-season with them. Until then he can’t be judged in my eyes, as NP wasn’t when he took over…..

As someone else said, it’s actually not his fault. If someone offers you a bigger club and tells you that you’re just the type of Manager they are looking for, you’re not going to turn it down.

But as LM may well find out very soon is that we are an unambitious lower championship side with an unexciting squad and a small budget, that’s run by idiots.

What we are on the pitch is a direct result of the way the whole club is run. Basically by amateurs pretending to be clever.

Forget what rhetoric the Lansdowns spew about the big time and challenging for promotion.

It’s utter garbage and we’re going nowhere fast except maybe back to L1 at this rate

No heart and no desire at the top, just the usual hot air

I pointed out on here the claim was a nonsense at the time, at a recent Q&A at the Hen and Chicken it was confirmed, the claim is incorrect.

Its not an easily at all. Mr Pearson's team finishing fourteenth can be viewed as out performing its budget, and a theme Nigel Pearson was continuing this season.

That's your opinion, I think we under-performed last season, and been slightly under-par this season, and so do the board, which it what counts tbh. It's not just results, it's the performances, they just didn't improve season on season with Nige.

They and you can think what you like, the facts say otherwise, I’m happy to be proven wrong, but so far unless the new manager changes things dramatically we are only going backwards. This squad is not top 10, and definitely not top 6. IF he is given money and can add a couple of quality signings then maybe, but as we stand, no chance.

My take on what we require-

    two strikers

    one midfielder

    one goalkeeper

    get rid

    weimann-williams-Tanner-Cornick

I wouldn't disagree there, but will they fund this? Tanner could be ok, he needs loaning to L1 (which I think is his level tbh). Williams is average, and Weimann doesn't look the same player since his injury, and constant position swapping in the team last season. I'd add Cornick to the out list as well.

Nope, it is definitely not top 6, probably not top 10 either, it certainly wasn't under the previous regime. Can the new manager change that, remains to be seen, we lack consistency. The reality for me, and I suspect others is, we have a top half budget, and a squad that matches that, at best right now.

I see that our budget should be better than:
Sheff Weds, Rotherham, QPR, Huddersfield, Miliwall, Coventry, Cardiff, Plymouth, PNE

    On Par with:
Swansea, Hull, Ipswich, Blackburn, Birmingham, Stoke

    Behind:
Leicester, Saints, Leeds, Boro, Sunderland, Watford, WBA, Norwich

I used the methodology of Jon Lansdown. Performance v budget. Bristol City's budget is not top ten. It is in the bottom half of the league. Bristol City have massively reduced transfer spending, massively reduced wages by at least 40% and Nigel Pearson advanced the position of the team.

I don't believe our budget is bottom half in this league, this season when you look at the teams, if it is, it's a close call with others, as I've put above (only my opinion though). Nige didn't improve the league position from when he took over - not even close tbh.... Yes he had less money to operate with, that's why we brought in his experience and know how to offset that. It just didn't work, he hasn't advanced the league position, or the squad strength. His hands were tied this season for sure when he didn't get much money from the Scott sale, but I think he'd burned his bridges with the board by then.

Using your analogy of performance vs budget then, where did you rate us under LJ? For me, I think we had a top 10-12 budget back then, and finished about par most of the time.

I don’t blame LM for coming and he may well turn out to be a brilliant appointment, I genuinely hope he is. I just don’t understand the logic of changing tac mid season. The players we have were bought to fit NP’s system, LM is now expected to change to his system with players that aren’t suited to do that, at the same time were led to believe he has little or no money and our budget is maxed out. If that makes sense to anyone please explain it because I think it’s complete madness, the guy has been sold down the river. The lunatics are in charge of the asylum.
