In interviews with SSN, both VDV and Joe Jordan have lavished praise on Adebayor, saying what a difference he has made to our team. VDV, in particular, cites him as the main reason for the goals he has scored this season. I have to say, I agree. The way he holds the ball up, occupies defenders, makes intelligent runs, and passes, has made a big difference to our attacking play. I just hope we can come to some agreement to sign him permanently!
Yep, he's been excellent. Superb movement, holds the ball up brilliantly, works tirelessly and fills the role that Crouch used to when we're defending set-pieces, too. He must be a nightmare to play against for defenders, as they never get a minute's peace.
I always hated him playing against us, you knew that he would always be a threat. He is as good as crouch with his head and and hundred times as good with his feet. He makes inteligent runs, and is such a handful for defenders he makes it difficult for other teams to double up on our creative players. If we are to continue moving forward he must sign permanently, he would be a major loss if he left at the end of the season.
Stat junkies? In other words arsenal fans? I would like to see him start hitting the net again but he makes such a difference just being on the pitch. His runs and movement is superb. And he is not selfish either!
He's fitted in brilliantly, worth well more than the £14mill to us but lets just hope that he's willing to take a quite drastic paycut. Signing new players is always a risk and I'd rather we didn't have to change our first choice striker again next season.
And, best of all, he seems to have finally found a club he looks prepared to work hard for. He's getting regular football, is playing with some of the most creative midfielders in the game, and is already adored by the fans. Surely, he'll take a pay-cut for that?
Even though the goals have dried up, his general all round play has been nothing but first class. Really would love to get him on a permanent deal.
Crouch - for all his size - is crap with his head. His technique is similar to mine, close your eyes and thrust your head in the general direction of the ball. It is only the fact that he is 6 inches taller than most, that he gets as many headed goals as he does.
Pav is much better with his head, despite being a mere five inches shorter than Crouch and a lot more...shall we say "laid back" in his approach? The thing with Crouch is that everyone else switches off and launches long balls at him just because he's tall, which always happened when I was playing football at school because I'm 6'3" - which somehow made it possible for me to reach crosses that were about nine feet in the air...
Ade has made a huge difference, and is the player we could least afford to lose to injury, I think. I forget who it was on these boards who mentioned he'd be ideal, but he convinced me! It's great VDV is giving him so much credit. As for being a stat junkie...if Ade plays every game and continues at this rate, he'd have 13/14 goals and 18 assists for the season--which is just fine, if you ask me. (As opposed to Crouch's 4 goals and 6 assists last year, and Pav's 9 goals, 4 assists.) Though I don't think the stats tell the story, it's more a matter that Ade is the right player in the right place.
Just so long as it remains confidence, and doesn't overspill into arrogance, as it has in the past. I just hope he's bright enough to have learned his lesson.
