Man Utd offered £20m in January 2020 but that was turned down, which is technically peanuts compared to his value at this point
To be honest he’s made the best possible choices in his career to date. Dortmund is probably second to none at developing young talent. Then when developed after a few years, joins the biggest club on the planet during a phase in which they’re building for the future with other elite young talent. The harshest reality is, if he’d had joined an English club he probably would’ve spent a fair amount of time playing in the U21s.
There is the possibility that clubs were scared off by the expectation that Birmingham would ask a mahoosive fee on him, basically leaving it to the financially doped clubs to decide if they wanted to make a bid Of course the counter argument to that is we dropped £63m on Ndombele in 2019, which is more than double what Dortmund paid for him in the summer of 2020...
So true, could you imagine how he would have been treated under out regime over the last 5 years , loans to Div one , occasionally warming the bench against a farmers 11 and then thrown on to try and get us a result at 2 nil down with 5 mins plus stoppage time left
A story of 3 teams. Spurs giving points to charity.Arsenal beating up on Gibraltar...sorry! Lens.....and Brighton doing us all proud in Athens.I wonder how many Brighton fans thought they would be in Europe?Hope they win it!!!!
Everton appleal and are quoted as saying a points deduction isn't appropriate for an accounting error. But it surely wasn't an accounting error...they just overspent.
I haven’t been that close to this but it sounds like they knew they were in trouble because they were moaning about not getting 80m for Richy, like they’d planned on, and having a player in their last year get injured which mean nobody wanted to buy him etc. To then describe it as an accounting error seems a little misleading. They knew they were in trouble, it’s not like someone added up the numbers wrong.
That statement they put out about expecting to receive £80m for Richarlison still blows my mind How on earth did they come to the conclusion that a dog average footballer would be worth that sort of money, even in an inflated market? They literally pulled our pants down at £60m. Crazy club. Hope the deduction stands though and we finally get rid of them this season, such a boring football club, though unfortunately all the promoted clubs this season are probably the worst collective I’ve seen in years and I’d expect them all to head back down.
Given how utterly bonkers the transfer market has got inside of the Premier League in the last couple of years, expecting something in the realm of £70m to maybe £75m at a push isn't as outrageous as it sounds, considering the average fee for Lukaku between Man Utd, Inter and Chelsea is something like £82.5m Of course the focus on what we paid for Richarlison is selective reporting at its "finest" considering Anthony Gordon went to the Saudis for £40m, yet for some reason they aren;t bleating about clearly having their trousers pulled down for a HG & CG winger, which in the current market is £60m at a bare minimum
Even in an inflated market I don’t think anyone should’ve been looking to pay over £45m for him. He’s a £20m calibre player at best and in this market you’re generally paying double a player’s market value if they’re in demand. I feel his persona and nationality has massively helped inflate his footballing reputation. With Lukaku he’s at least got some good pedigree and a very sound scoring record throughout most of his career. Never a £100m striker but he’s worth substantially more than Richarlison and it’s why he’s had a far better career to date too. Generally guarantees a good amount of goals, even if he does have the first touch of Emerson Royal. Gordon’s a weird one. I’ve never rated him and thought Everton pulled ours and Toon’s pants down within 6 months of each other but credit where it’s due, he’s looked very good this season, if he maintains this form then £40m will have been a snip.
In an inflated market £45m gets you Matheus Cunha, which Atletico Madrid somehow managed to get Wolves to pay for him in the summer in spite him basically doing nothing at Monster Energy Dusseldorf or Hertha Berlin, which begs the question why Atleti paid €30m for him - so they must have been ecstatic when Wolves offered them a 50% upsell Lukaku is borderline Barren Dent as he'll have a season where he bangs them in for a upper-mid level club, somebody bites and pays a huge fee for him...and then goals dribble to nothing. It's so bizarre this has happened twice, with Man Utd and Chelsea biting, as usually this is a blunder Arsenal or Liverpool make As for Gordon, the fact he's had a good season makes it even more baffling no pundits (or statements from Everton) mention he was sold for clearly below market value, because he clearly was and to a club with infinite money at that
That’s exactly the thing though, Cunha isn’t anything to brag about, just as Richarlison isn’t, yet we threw a fee at Everton that’d indicate we’d be getting a top class player in return when I’d say a good 60-70% of our fanbase, certainly on here too, knew we were getting our pants pulled down. The sheer fact Cunha has outperformed Richarlison since coming to the Prem is a damning indictment of the latter. Everton should’ve been bragging about our deal with them, not moaning about it. Lukaku being a glorified Bent is still more desirable than a forward that struggles to score goals though, or do anything of note really. It’s not even as if Richarlison makes up for his lack of finishing ability, which makes watching him play all the more annoying. Just gotta hope the Saudi’s are looking to raid the Prem again in January, we might have a chance of clawing back some money with them.
The bizarre thing about Everton's financial situation is their mental isolation. They acted like they were alone in the COVID crisis, for a start. Then they pretended that everyone else wasn't aware of their problems. The problem with having to shift on players to generate funds is just that. It's a problem that those trying to buy the players will know about. You can expect reduced fees, as you have to sell.
There's also the weird fixation on what we paid for Richarlison, but not what other teams paid for their players (case in point, the Saudis paid under Anthony Gordon's value), but realistically the issue is just how many of their players have left on free transfers since 2021 2021: Yannick Bolasie, Josh King, Mo Besic, Theo Walcott 2022: Fabian Delph, Cenk Tosun, Saloman Rondon, [NAME REDACTED] 2023: Yerry Mina, Andros Townsend, Asmir Begovic Losing so many players for nothing at a time where i.) Club's bottom lines were affected by crowds not being at the grounds ii.) The market in the Premier League started to get grossly inflated as the monied clubs exploited the situation to shore up their position iii.) Everton were funding the build for a new stadium Was always going to affect Everton one way or another, because the stadium build was going to squeeze finances for players - especially with the funding for the build being a messy affair, and the squeeze got that bit firmer - and the fact they were starting pay increased fees yet weren't making a penny on several players leaving (and a few others left for a noticeable loss) was a disaster waiting to happen
Man utd away to Newcastle tonight, KO 8.00pm freezing weather , what time will they get home, TV companies don't give **** about fans
