I agree with Pardew, if he leaves, it might not be better for him seeing as right now he's part of the joint best defence in the league. Other fans may expect too much of him because of that.

He's not brilliant but he wouldnt be short of options. I've seen him seriously linked with Villa, QPR and Fulham off the top of my head. Of course Villa and QPR signed Hutton and Young but it would appear he is rated as quite good by other clubs.

Remember when Zog thought Arsenal were gunning for him ( pun intended).

You don't have a clue what the club have offered? It could be a good deal, it might be peanuts. Its foolish to pass judgement when not in possession of all the facts.

Only some thought that to be honest. I've said many times on these boards, Davide Santon is a right back. He can play left but he is a right back by trade. I think the plan was to buy a left back but the option of Santon at 5m came up and they couldn't pass the opportunity up. Given his pedigree you can understand. They'll sign a left back too eventually.

It's probably well over £20,000 per week, relatively peanuts by PL standards but a huge amount by every day standards.

Wish players wouldn't be so greedy, it's us fans that ultimately foot the bill with increased ticket and merchandise costs that are used to claw back the money.

I'd have him in the 25k bracket so if he was asking more than that I think he's being greedy. Point is we just don't know though and its wrong to start calling him greedy when the club could be low balling him. I just never understand why people jump on either the players or clubs back when these things are played out in the media. Its just daft as we really don't have the facts. I won't criticise the club or Simpson unless someone publishes the figures (not gonna happen). Previously we've had the lovely Derek give us a few details after the event, or the player, but the reality is they could be talking **** (most likely are) and putting their spin on it.

Must admit I struggle to criticise the players too much on the wage front, they didn't create our crazy football world afterall. We sold out in this country to money (clubs and FA), everyone went along with it and now we don't like it because it inevitiably spiralled out of control into greed. We need to get a wage cap in place and the sooner the better. That way wages will then go back to how it should be. Top players earn very good money (say 50k) not ****ing 200k a week. Its insulting to the average man on the street who is struggling to pay for his season ticket.

I'd like him to sign a new contract.

He'll never set the world alight but as a squad player he's dependable enough to do the job as and when required.

He's improved a lot in the few years he's been here and always seems to give his all.
