It was only when Pritch came on that someone finally overlapped with Clark. No-one can surely defend the tactics last night. It doesn't always mean manager has to go but we are not playing anywhere near the same pace, zipping of passing that we have seen and it is disappointing. The press was virtually non existent at times last night. I agree that Cirkin is a miss but so was Huggins last night.
Remember - we had the opportunity to let him go on a high, and let a new man bed in with a full pre-season. But there was toys out of the pram all over as a result, even when anyone looking at his career should have seen that this is inevitably what happens. And here we are again. The crowd on the verge of turning and anyone we could have gotten in the summer now in a job.
The first couple of passes set the tone. So sloppy and the opposite of how you’d want to start against a team low on confidence with loads of injury concerns. Really disappointing performance without any real tempo.
The club will have had plans for the future in every respect, including managers. I'm sure they'll have noticed our recent results so I'm happy to sit back and see what happens. No doubt there'll be a change. No doubt some will want to feel proactive by posting on forums and demanding this or that ... ... fair enough.
Absolutely. I watched Mayenda and Hemir last night. Mayenda made 4 or 5 good runs forward into space, he’s still awaiting the pass from one of our midfielders. Burstow in the past has done the same, you wonder how difficult it is to ask someone to take that risk. Prichard (apologies for misspelling as auto kicked in) sees those passes! He,or made a couple of darts towards space where “that pass” sets him away. Clarke took on another 2 and lost the ball! You know I’m the first angling for an argument when people slate the team or manager, but I’m seething this morning about it. The second goal is one of those things, tackle falls to their lad and he bangs it in the corner. But we didn’t up any tempo at that point, we just ****ed on with the ball more than we had before the goal. Not happy in case you didn’t guess!
Been reflecting on the situation this morning. This might be a long post so bare with. One of Tony’s strengths as a manager is he’s just put the quality on the pitch and let them play. He’s been open in saying that himself. Last season that meant Amad, Roberts and Clarke joined up to tear teams apart. This season Clarke has continued, if not improved. But Roberts off form. It’s meant that the opposition have had to just stop one player playing. We have continued to focus on getting the ball out wide to Clarke and Roberts, which means that we don’t create chances through the middle. But the oppositions have sussed this and are stopping us. Mowbray is still just hoping for maverick moments. So swaps attacking players in mass substitutions, hoping for a spark that can’t come. It was telling in his interview last night he said we desperately need one or two of our strikers to catch fire. I know it’s just a cliche but he’s basically saying we need them to naturally and organically start scoring goals. Not considering how we create those chances. It’s almost like he thinks we are creating loads of chances for strikers and they’re not putting them away. I don’t think that’s the case. So anyway. I really like Mowbray. I am so grateful to him for allowing the team we have built to play with freedom. But that isn’t enough. They need to find a balance between freedom and results. Not just freedom and hope. Where I’ve landed is we need to bring a new manager in. But it has to be the right one. If that right one isn’t available until summer then there’s no point or rush to sack Mowbray. But if that right one is available now, I don’t see a reason to wait. Indeed I’d much rather it happened soon so that my memories of a fun era aren’t tainted by a series of bad results.
"Not considering how we create those chances." Seriously mate, I'd bet that's the biggest topic for the coaches and has been since Stewart was injured. We've consistently scored since then but the strikers need to do more.
A good, intelligent post mate. My take on it is that I think TM is struggling to get our creative players to link with a striker, and,I think his efforts to do so are stifling the individual creativity which is already there. We're all looking for a goalscoring striker, instead of having to rely on deeper players for goals.....not sure we're getting it right.
Of course but I don’t think there’s much more they can do in some instances. We had like 27 shots last night but I bet maybe max 2 of them were from the striker. I’d love to see the data from how much he was given the ball. We aren’t set up to get the ball to the striker. We are set up to get the ball to Clarke and Roberts Our tactics are to get the ball out wide and let Clarke and Roberts do what they want. Often it’s ****ing brilliant because they’re ****ing brilliant. And last season when we had three of them doing it, it was often impossible to stop. This season not so.
I really like big Tone, but if he can’t get these players to beat the likes of Plymouth and Huddersfield then we need someone who can.
Did anyone watch the Arsenal game last night? I bet there’s some Arsenal fans feel right dick heads at the moment.
Ridiculous team selection, tactics and substitutions last night. Seems like someone fancies Xmas off with his family in Saltburn
don’t think we decide tbh. I’m sure the board have a plan and won’t change it because of a few moans on social media imo.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to change managers ... ... until it becomes a frenzy and personal. I'd like to think we're better than that. I'm pretty sure some people think they do
I think the next 3 games may decide his fate. Milwall away is never easy, then we play 2 of the form teams in the division. If 2 defeats in a row becomes 5 then that might be goodnight Tone
