Dortmund need at least a draw to finish top of the group given they already lost to PSG away. We just need to win our game
whether it's last 16 or Europa league, couldn't be prouder of the lads after last nights display. Never seen 11 players leave the pitch looking as spent, they gave everything they had. If we hadn't been decimated by injuries, i think we'd qualify no problems but we'll be back, bigger and better!
GRRRR! What a travesty Wasn't even mad last night just dejected but this morning I'm furious! How can a ref - who'd had a very good game up until that point - give that penalty? What ever, couldn't be prouder and the lads were immense, especially the youngsters - Tino, Gordon, Miley - the future is bright! Still in our hands and if we don't lose in a few weeks time at SJP we continue the European adventure!
Pleased to see everyone's reacting well... no sighs of unrealistic expectations anywhere even on twitter. Well done the fans
It always feels worse when you’ve conceded in the last minute rather than the 70th or so If we can stay in touch in the league, the good thing is we will have players back in the new year plus the transfer window Other teams will lose players to injury I think we will have a strong second half of the season
Yes. In the group stage, each win is worth €2.8m, while a draw earns €930k. There is then more prize money for each additional stage reached: last 16 €9.6m, quarter-final €10.6m, semi-final €12.5m, final €15.5m and winners €20.0m. Therefore, the difference between winning and losing the final is €4.5m. So, if Newcastle were to beat the odds and win the Champions League (winning all six of their group games in the process), they would earn a maximum of €69.5m in prize money.
But play Thursdays... meh. I'd take it rather than nowt, but much rather progress in CL and go out earlier if we had to.
Newcastle can I believe win the Europa league but the champions league is definitely a stay of execution. Seriously we need that pot before we all die.
The performance was awesome at the end of the day, esp Miley, Tino and Gordon; just cos of a stupid decision at the end, no one is going to lose sight of that. Play like that Vs Man U and well crush them.
Honestly, I'd rather take our chances in domestic cups this year, get as much CL exposure as possible and hunker down in the league to try and get back into it next year. I couldn't take losing to the Scousers in the EL final PLUS failing to qualify for CL next year. The trophies will come. I'm very confident of that. I don't plan on dying in the next few years.
Last nights VAR has been pulled from his duties tonight, and UEFA have also confirmed that there should have been no penalty if a ball comes off your body... Meh - I can't get angry. We move on. Beat Milan and hope for the best. The world saw that for what it was.
Man United are now becoming very hard to beat. I think the season is catching up with our squad. We'll see, but I think we're going to have the worst month we've had for a long time.
VAR has one issue - the twats in the video room are ****ing useless. How do they not understand the law? How is one idiot in front of the screen is the only person in the entire world who thinks that’s a penalty? It it stays it needs total investment. Three independent viewers, binary button (yes/no) for either offside, penalty or red card upgrade. They get 60’seconds then decide, in complete isolation, no discussion then it’s just “penalty/no penalty” “offside/not offside” “red card/no red card”. Once the refs watch flashes up he then reviews and either stands by decision or overrules. I don’t know why this would be so hard to introduce. Democratic, but the official has no idiots chatting **** in his mic, no process fail, time limited.
There's bets involved more than likely. This idea it's all mistakes isn't likely.. they have eyes right ?... some will others will be about betting. We move on still in this.
VAR dude out for one game. Should be season long bans for this level of corruption and a full investigation.
But it was the ref who gave it regardless of var. The ref went to the monitor and decided to give it.
