Well done. Makes a big difference in your 40s and 50s. I'm approaching 8 years (more or less as not teetotal, had an occasional glass of wine on special occasions). Took the decision after years of bad sleep and irritability. Certainly social events are a bit more boring and you want out when everyone else is at that drunk, repetitive stage, so there are downsides. Plus the smell of stale beer and fart remains in the pub and isn't drunk away. But the reduced tiredness and increased energy makes up for it. Traditionally, mid 40s are when a man's body starts to stop working.. but apart from dodgy knees, I've managed to avoid this. I think late night drinking is the worst, because effectively ruin the next day and body too old to repair easily, but with some lifestyle changes it's possible to keep energy, testosterone and sex levels higher longer.
You might want to re-read the post you're responding to, I doubt SW3's abstained from alcohol for more than six hours, never mind six months.
It's also done wonders for your cognitive function, oh ... The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
I've noticed not waking up with a hangover for 23 months, but I'd really rather have one, at least occasionally.
