tbh I don't think DQPR were struggling, as they were not in the bottom three at the time....and as far as I am aware they never were. Yes, they were on a bad run but not exactly adrift...Fair enough about Wigan, but that was away. My comment was specifically about home games, though I admit I didn't make that obvious. Tar...

The definition of 'strugglers' are like eg. Peterborough who hadn't picked up a point in the first 10 games, but somehow won 3-1 at ours. or ditto Crystal Palace..

Prior to Tuesday's Sky Bet Championship fixture against Rotherham United, Chairman Acun Ilıcalı has penned his monthly notes in the matchday programme, 'The Tiger'.

Good evening and welcome to the MKM Stadium for tonight’s Sky Bet Championship fixture against Rotherham United.

I should preface by stating that owing to print deadlines, I write these notes prior to our visit to Swansea City, so I sincerely hope you are reading these notes following another positive result.

We have officially played a third of the 2023/24 season and we occupy a promising position in the league table, time truly does fly when you’re having fun! Thanks to a last gasp Liam Delap winner, we deservedly entered the final international break of 2023 level on points with both sixth-placed Sunderland and seventh-placed West Bromwich Albion with 26. Alongside you all, I am thoroughly enjoying the progress we are making on the pitch.

The last game we played here at the MKM Stadium saw the team show incredible character and patience to unlock a resolute Huddersfield Town side. The boys kept fighting to the very end and were rewarded with a deserved stoppage-time winner. The boys have regularly shown fight and determination throughout this campaign and the result against the Terriers exemplified that. Of course, we have plenty more contests to stand and I am confident that if we maintain our collective belief and unity, we will be smiling in May.

During the aforementioned fixture, I was delighted to host guests from our principal partner, McVitie’s. They, like us all, were ecstatic with Delap’s winner and I am sure that they enjoyed their first taste of the famous Hull hospitality. When I reference the growth on field, this is a wonderful example of our progression of it, and we are delighted to be working alongside a partner of this stature who have given us their full support since joining our family.

The Huddersfield fixture also saw ‘Hull City Italian’ travel over 1,500 miles to the game. It was a pleasure to meet him and his passion for this club matched my own. I hope he enjoyed his experience here and we hope to welcome him back to the MKM very soon.

In what was an incredibly busy period, I must also note the commendable work undertaken by the Tigers Trust, which was highlighted through the EFL’s Week of Action. Liam Rosenior took part in walking football, Josh Barratt became the Trust’s first ever staff ambassador, a host of current and former Hull City players/staff participated in a Question of Sport along with countless related activities demonstrating the club’s commitment to improving wellbeing within the region.

It was also a pleasure to see videos and pictures of our junior Tigers engaging with our exclusive Member events over the course of half-term week. Over 400 members took part in a host of activities which saw supporters rub shoulders with first team players in events such as EAFC & Pizza night, signing sessions and stadium tours, allowing fans the chance to see the MKM Stadium in a different perspective. I reiterate, the young fans are the lifeblood and future of the football club and we will continue to provide these opportunities to all our supporters. I hope to the members who attended these events that you fully enjoyed yourselves and we thank you for your continued support.

It is always an honour to see our players showcase their abilities on an international stage. On this occasion, we saw five players represent their respective nations over the course of this international break. Our McVitie’s October Player and Goal of the Month winner Jaden Philogene was one of them and his call-up was fully deserved with the start he has had. To see him, Delap and Tyler Morton join up with England Under-21s shows the great strides we are making to recruit and develop some of the countries’ best young talents. I’m sure you’ll agree that this trio have made a significant difference at Hull City since their summer arrival.

Influential midfielder, Jean Michaël Seri, was once again selected for Ivory Coast, while Academy prospect, Stan Ashbee, debuted for Republic of Ireland’s Under-18s. Vaughn Covil has recently returned to Hull, after commendably representing USA in the 2023 Pan American Games in Chile. To all the players that were called, I want to personally congratulate you for your representing your nation.

Returning to domestic action, we have two home games back-to-back as, following this evening, Watford visit on Saturday. We are encouraging fans to turn up to the fixture against the Hornets with their scarfs ready to create a sea of black and amber prior to kick-off. The passion you have already shown throughout the course of the season has been exceptional and we want more of the same. You are turning up in your numbers, as attendances continue to increase, though whilst we achieve these feats, we simultaneously want to make the MKM an intimidating place to play. With your help, we can do that on a regular basis.

Finally, I would like to welcome the players, staff, executives and supporters of Rotherham United to the MKM Stadium. Each side in this division poses unique challenges to us, with every game being somewhat unpredictable. We are fully aware of the threats that out South Yorkshire counterparts offer and we will have to be at our best to beat the Millers.

All that is left for me to say is thank you once again for your incredible support and please join me in getting behind Liam Rosenior’s side tonight!

    Up the Tigers!

Rotherham are only bringing 400 apparently, very poor for somewhere just over an hour away, though they've been terrible away this season and a lot of their fans have given up on them.

His mum posted it, under the circumstances, I think she can be forgiven for getting the opposition wrong.

I'm actually at the Rotherham ground ATM, the people I'm with think if we score early it'll get embarrassing.

I've had a look on there fan forum and there is zero about a game tonight vs Hull City. I'm beginning to wonder if they think its tomorrow, or they're doing it on purpose.

And then you'd look back RT and think if we had only beaten either Leeds, Coventry, Plymouth at him and not dropped a last minute to Southampton. And ultimately it may come back to that.

Presumably if they're **** away they'll come and do a Huddersfield and sit back. We'll have chances but we have to take them and that's always the thing with this team. I'm sure we'll move the ball well and all the usual stuff but we have to kill them off when we have chances. We've had quite enough games where we've gone behind against the run of play after 20 minutes and then had to toil for the rest of the game. No prisoners tonight, we have to be clinical and punish them when we open them up.

Based on our track record, I'm not confident about us doing this.
