Actually, that was possibly a very clever answer! A backward step. I'm not a fan of devolution, just another layer adding cost, complication and division, but as was said by the councillor who was also against it, you have to play the game to get the considerable money (or words to that effect). Way, way out of my knowledge base, and I don't know if they eventually won their argument, but the local ecology groups were against the destruction of the existing trees, which they claimed were condemned with very doubtful assessments, but they also strongly objected to the choice of replacement trees, which they say were non-indigenous, which would have a significant impact on bio-diversity as local birds, plants insects etc would not find them as useful.
Hey ho, if, big if it seems, they ever find and charge who cut the tree down at Sycamore Gap they can claim they did it for local birds, plants insects etc. We'll have no sycamores here Tubbs, this is a local gap for local trees. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
