Excellent, so you agree that I can extol the song 'Let The People Sing' and still hold my view that there should not be IRA songs at Celtic games.

    Thanks!

So you also agree that you were wrong, there are more options.

    Great!

I won't ask you to explain why it makes me a hypocrite, you'll probably make a right arse of that as well.

I'll leave you to your 'jokes.'

Nighty night Webel. Watch out for those bed bugs - they might be Unionists. ;)

I am quite comfortable that I have explained your hypocrisy. I am quite comfortable I have explained where you have told lies. I am quite comfortable I have demonstrated where there is a massive gap in your knowledge on the subject.

I have proven you are an ignorant lying hypocrite. if that makes me an arse, so be it.

The bed bugs can be unionist if they want. They can even sing me sweet little unionist ditties to get me off to sleep. They'll still be smarter than you.

Why? Did you just sing a song with those three letters that should not be put together in it?

    Naughty Rebel.

<laugh> I'm not quite sure that vindicates your stance on singing IRA songs.

I too think LTPS is fine, IRA songs not. It's perfectly possible, reasonable even, to believe that singing songs as an expression of identity is OK in principle, to sing songs that are about singing songs being an expression of identity, but think that IRA songs might be better kept away from football. The emphasis being on 'away from football'.

Again I'll use an OTT analogy...If my 'identity' was as a white supremacist, I'd imagine you'd probably prefer me to sing my nazi songs somewhere other than celtic park. Now no doubt you'll say 'but those are illegal, unequivocally offensive etc etc so not really comparable to 'rebel songs'. And you'd be right of course. But, assuming you think LTPS is an acceptable song to sing and using your reasoning, you'd still be a hypocrite. Or stupid.

I am not using it to vindicate my stance on the singing of rebel songs. I am using it to laugh at an idiot.

Cossy used it as an example of a song he thought was acceptable. The song references a period where Cromwellian forces murdered the Harpers and the Bards and resistance was found in music and song. Cossy then put forward the laughably ridiculous argument that it referenced peaceful civil rights protests. The debate should have ended then and there.

With respect AP, you were unaware of the board approved amendments to LTPS that change the thrust of the song entirely. It is obviously slightly contentious or they wouldn't have changed it. The sentiment behind the song is absolutely clear.

    Let the people sing.

It is hypocritical to say on one hand "let the people sing" and on the other. "Let the people not sing".

    It is not hypocritical to say;

Let the people sing their stories and their songs
And the music of their native land
Their lullabies and battlecries and songs of hope and joy
So join us hand in hand
    All across this ancient land
    Throughout the test of time
It was music that kept their spirits free
Those songs of yours and of mine

and then go ahead and do just that.
