Two points dropped. Why won’t Appleton start Louie Watson. We are so much better when he is on the pitch. Up to 10th. Still no better than last season under Sandgaard. And the gap to the top 6 gets bigger and bigger. Perhaps that’s the idea. Let the gap grow and then there’s no need to invest in January ?
Mickey Apples seems to have a strong preference for Charlton players over loanees, that's the only reason I can think why he would drop Watson until it was too late. Dobbo plays better with Watson, they are both hard workers, and are building up a partnership. Alfie has been on fire as no. 10, and although he will play his heart out wherever he is put, why change something that works? And it's another partnership, Alfie and Leaburn.
I listened to the commentary and it sounded like CBT was our only real threat. I hope we see Watson and T. Campbell back for McGrandles and Fraser on Tuesday.
Just to add some perspective, This is the joint second worst start Charlton have had to a League One season (after 17 games) since we first went down to the 3rd tier in 2009. That's ten seasons in total at this level. Only season 2021-22 was worse (by 4 points).
For goodness sake, you’ve been told time and time again, this is a six window project. And obviously last January doesn’t count cos the management team weren’t really in control. And obviously this summer didn’t count cos that c*nt Sandgaard delayed the takeover so the billionaires didn’t have time to spend much money. And obviously this coming January we are still at the limit of the SCMP rules so that won’t count as they can’t spend any money either. And next summer…….. to be continued
There does seem to be a general feeling of acceptance, even some satisfaction, from some fans at the way things have gone so far this season. Maybe that's a false impression I'm picking up. I admit I don't read social media or other forums, and I don't go to games at the moment, So I am quite out of the loop. Appleton seems to be a likeable fellow who appears to know what he's doing. More so at least than the last three or four gaffers we've had. And fans have a few favourite players to cheer on; May, Leaburn, Blackett-Taylor... But when it's examined by the numbers, this has still been a very lack-lustre season. We were in danger of slipping into the relegation zone when Holden was fired and Appleton brought in. We've won 1 away game in the league. We've failed to win back to back league games all season so far. We have no wins against any team in the top 9 places (anyone above us). We've taken 3 points from 7 games against them. All of these things point to another season of achieving nothing, apart from avoiding relegation to the 4th tier. A massive upturn in form will be needed to go on a top 6 run and secure a play-off place. And we still have no idea who our owners are or what they intend to do. Drawing away at Carlisle shows exactly what level CAFC is at. Can we even be sure we will beat Cheltenham at the Valley? - anything less than a win will be inexcusable.
Form over the last five games would put Cheltenham 5th in the table. And us equal 16th. I wouldn’t be putting too much money on a home win if I were you. Still I believe our Xg is better than thei…….
The prick wums on any old s*** that comes up. Swiss Ramble and Sqwaka are old favs of SeriouslyRidiculous.
