Another thing that's really good is seeing how Max and Bernie were playing the teams and how they would keep the teams guessing and scattered. God am so glad they're both gone.

Keanu Reeves is kind of his usual monotone self during some of the interviews and narration, but it's easy to look beyond that.

Three-time F1 champion Verstappen has been particularly outspoken and critical of the Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend, which he reckons is “99% show” and “1% a sporting event”.

He also said comparing a circuit that incorporates the famous Strip to an historic street track like Monaco is to compare the flagship “Champions League” football competition with the “National League”.

The Red Bull driver - who was third fastest in qualifying but will line up second for the race with Carlos Sainz serving a 10-place grid penalty - also believes the series must do more to sell motorsport to the fans that are attending races rather than allowing concerts and other entertainment to hog the attention.
He said: “When I was a little kid, it was about the emotion of the sport what I fell in love with and not the show of the sport around it. As a real racer, that shouldn’t really matter.

“A Formula 1 car on a street circuit doesn’t really come alive. It’s not that exciting. I think it’s more about proper racetracks. When you go to Spa, Monza, these kinds of places, they have a lot of emotion and passion.

“Seeing the fans there, it’s incredible. When I jump in the car there, I’m fired up. I love driving around these kinds of places.”

Verstappen added that F1 was not doing enough to promote the sporting competition and is instead leaning too heavily on “random shows all over the place”.

He continued: “I understand that fans, they need maybe something to do as well around the track. But I think it’s more important that you actually make them understand what we do, as a sport.

“Most of them just come to have a party, drink, see a DJ play or a performance act. I can do that all over the world. I can go to Ibiza and get completely ****faced and have a good time. But that’s what happens [at races].


“People, they come, and they become a fan of what? They want to see maybe their favourite artist and have a few drinks with their mates and go out and have a crazy night out. But they don’t actually understand what we’re doing and what we’re putting on the line to perform.

I have watched first 2 episodes and I think it's great. Montezemolo does seem so bitter accusing them of cheating such hypocrisy coming from Ferrari!!! Horner doing his stirring job as normal.
So nice to see some of the team members are still at Merc.
I love the little snippets of insight like getting the Plumber to do the refuelling on his weekends! Sad that they had to make half the staff redundant but they saved the team.
Looking forward to the last 2 episodes.

At the track, I just want to see all day racing and have access to a beer tent. That's all you need.

It does seem like Liberty just threw away the rule book when it came to deciding where to have a race and what attracts spectators.
Why pick a location that is so difficult to use the streets? They can't close the strip 24 hrs a day over the weekend, massive overpasses have to be constructed each year, very expensive land to build pits on, not able to have hospitality near pits, grandstands constructed in front of some of the land marks. It's not like you see much of the strip landmarks.
I just can't see the logic behind their thinking. There have to be great circuits close to population centres that would have been soooooo much better to race on.

Given the choice of watching cars steam down the strip or watching them navigate the corkscrew at Laguna Seca. I know which I'd pick.:)

I watched the brawn gp stuff through.

it reinforces my recollection that button was one of the very luckiest f1 champions ever.

the radio stuff really comes off like a lad who had no idea what to do or why he wasn't performing. the first dominant races really put him in a position where irrespective of how hard he tried he couldn't really lose the lead. and he did try.

the pilicitcs and sharks were mildly interesting but none of them are nice guys.
 
Occasionally YouTube's algorithm gets it right...

On the face of it a simple video, but it got me thinking all kind of things...
  • That's one way to prevent abuse of track limits
  • As well as figuring out fast lines, the computer is building its consistency, like the best humans
  • Imagine the huge extra complexity of F1 constructor simulator models, which (I presume) have to be updated whenever they do significant updates to a car
  • I wonder how far the 'trickle down' could go - bringing machine learning within reach of club racers?
  • The early runs looked much like Australia 2023.

All champions need a good car, and luck. He deserves his title as much as any other driver does. He clearly lost his head for a while and was trying too hard rather than sticking tho what he knows.

Button was a great driver with great potential, and he'll admit he was is own worst enemy at times and didn't quite focus on his racing in the manner he should. Had that championship come a little earlier in his career, and had he found himself in a McLaren that could realistically challenge for the title, he could have got more than one title.

He also comes across as a genuine bloke, which is great.


As for the Bernie/Max part. They were just utter scum bags all around and syphoned so much money out of the sport, it's criminal imo. I always hated how people would say Bernie made F1. As far as I'm concerned, he was a crook.

Jenny Gowe is one of the most underrated presenters out there .

Lee McKenzie very good .


IMHO so far Schiff has only proved she has a degree in stating the bloody obvious .
