But when 50k Slater does it you ignore it anyway So that's probably where the difference lies. Games moved on from the late 90s. Some need to deal with it or go and support Rervers of Effcee. Gerrit furwaaard. Offsaard ref.
I'm not the one replying to myself on this occasion. Though I see you have a little antipodean echo chamber tagging himself along. All we need now is for C*azz to turn up.
So we need a physical DM because all the best teams have one and it's obvious and Rosenior doesn't want one because they might be a strong character and Rosenior only wants players who will do what they're told etc. etc. etc. Interesting. Anyway, on the need for a physical DM who all the best teams have, Rodri was mentioned as a prime example. He averages 1.9 tackles a game in the PL this season, Seri avaerages 1.4 per game in the Championship. So if we had a physical DM we'd make one more tackle every two games. That would sort us out. The truth is that size or physicality is no longer a requirement for top midfield players, at least not compared to ball skills and passing ability. There are very few tackles in midfield in the modern game, teams win the ball back by pressing the opposition into mistakes, then winning the ball through interceptions (0.8 per game for Rodri, same for Seri), or blocks (0.2 for Rodri, 0.6 for Seri). Of course Rodri is much better than Seri, because he's playing at the top of a much harder division, but the idea that he's a great player because he gets stuck in is a bit wide of the mark.
****ing about at the back - can't tackle anymore - VAR - constant diving - woke commentators / virtue signalling - Sky moving games to inconvenient times - it's not moved on it's going backwards from a sport that was enjoyed by the masses to one that is quickly becoming a pain in the arse - yes we all want our team to win and do well but let's not pretend what we are being served is haute cuisine when it's more like Wetherspoons
Chazz I haven’t posted on here for about 6 weeks because I’m bored of arguing etc. I replied to one post with “ht2 suggested we was looking at a lb” MO replies to it with war and peace, which was clearly to another post. Which is fine, an honest mistake, but instead of just admitting it and we move on. He just carries on ranting and posting bollocks.
It's my fault, I thought your post was confirmation we were definitely after a left back so questioned it. Didn't expect to see what proceeded it now I'm catching up. I think I'm going to come off this thread until later.
It’s unbelievable isn’t it, it’s a message board which we all put our opinions. It’s what football is all about and keeps this board ticking over. It’s just goes too far these days
FFS Baz Coopers fault. 13 minutes At risk of being guilty of the commentator's curse - and that happens a lot - City are in complete control here, and this is the quietest I've known this ground early on. And I've been coming here for years.
We don’t manage perfectly with this midfield. The number of games this type of midfielder would’ve got us over the line or kept us in it or got us back in it, is very clear to see. It’s not just about defending, it’s also about winning the ball higher up, stopping transitions. 2 things out current midfield don’t do.
We do actually. The times we don't you notice, but I'm not sure how a tank stops transitions any better when we're fully pressed up. It's legs and energy that counts - hence missing Slater.
I’ve said it numerous times over this season, albeit, I haven’t seen us play for a couple of months, but Seri is a very weak link in midfield. His passes are usually safe & short, only when it’s an obvious choice into space does he play it forward. He’s obviously talented in passing, I’ve just always found him to be nothing special, the comparisons by some to Hudds are basically laughable. He is one of Acun’s signings, I think at times, when I’ve seen us play, it really shows that he can’t or won’t make the incisive passes that’s needed. He’s on a similar scale to Doc, with Doc having the engine, but not the talent at this level, Seri has the talent, but either chooses not to use it, or can’t get that bit extra out of himself to show it. I assume that Seri’s contract is up at the end of this season & won’t be renewed, or it’s a 3 year contract, & he’ll be offloaded to Saudi Arabia, but if luck, in the summer.
When Seri's on his game he makes us tick. When he's off it, you probably notice it more. He's still hugely influential. Ain't getting any younger though enters the penultimate year of his contact in june, so we do need to think about succession planning.
