Some games we've looked vulnerable in transition. The majority we haven't any more than most sides and if that's down to the CBs then so be it. It's a tactical decision which has put us level on points with 6th a 3rd of the way into the season - but obviously it's a fluke, just like our record under Rosenior was last season according to some. I'm sure if someone had the physical aspect as well as the technical at CM then we'd be interested - Just like we would be in a 30 goal striker who could lead the line and play with his back to goal as well, but they don't grow on trees at this level.
When rosenior has commented on him in the past he sees him as a deep lying playmaker. Pointing out that he's versatile enough to also play 10 in another system under Warne that's seen no real improvement on Roseniors Derby tenure, simply in order to labour a point seems a little contrived to me.
I think having a big bruiser in midfielder is getting a bit outdated, especially considering how soft football is becoming. Not point having a 6 ft 2 brick ****house if he can’t even use his physicality without giving away a foul. Much better having someone that can tackle cleanly, take possession, keep possession, etc. 5 ft 6 Kante wasn’t too bad!
38 year old midget stick insect Modric has been dropping deep for Real recently. Someone better tell Ancelotti that he's being stubborn, inexperienced and naive.
You are joking right.? Busquets might not have been a brick **** house or a "tank", and i doubt anyone on here is calling for that, but he was tough, nasty, clever, had presence etc as well as being a damn good footballer.
Agree, it's not so much about the size of player but the type of player. Someone who wins the ball, breaks up the play, intercepts, and typically (but not always) just keeps it simple etc. All top sides have them in there. I don't get why Rosenior chooses to persist without.
That's the point though. In the modern game that role is about positioning, interceptions, reading the game and so on much more than it is about being big and strong. The idea that you absolutely must have a big unit in there is very 15 years ago. Hence we manage perfectly fine with this midfield.
Makalele had that position named after him and wasn’t a brick ****house. Kante too. Every article I’ve read about Morton is that he’s a defensive midfielder. Maybe the game has changed and there’s no need for the huge enforcer role? there’s no need
Expect to see some former gonnabes moved on. And remember Bird played a season at this level in a team that got more points than us even though we survived and they didn't.
Acun really needs to get his act together fgs, wtf is he doing employing a former professional footballer as manager, a bloke who has gone through coaching badges etc when he can choose from.a number of experts on here who obviously know more ! I mean come on Acun, some on here have the knowledge to have us challenging for top 4 in the promised land, stop dragging ya heels !
Possibly top 5 in the premier league like Reims? In all other industry’s management hasn’t necessarily worked their way through the whole system from the bottom up, I’m not sure what’s so different about football.
