It's been a political appointment for decades. And is only a problem when it's the other side that gets the job.
As predicted, he just couldn't help himself, and here we are again... https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/gary-lineker-israel-gaza-bbc-b2451624.html
He's been waiting for someone to tell him what to think. He's not the sharpest tool in the box, which is why he restricts himself to an idiot, short sentence platform.
Lineker. He knows he is pushing things with the Beeb and likely it'll end with a pay off so he can go full time with TNT or some other network. He won't quit though
The BBC doesn't seem like a pleasant place to be tbh, can't blame anyone looking for a way out. I think it'll collapse completely in the next decade tbh. What's he said now?
Hmmm, just found it and, tbh, he's hardly doing much more than saying it's worth a few minutes to look at. If people think he should be denied any opinions I think they're living in the wrong country. I don't like him personally but the outrage is pathetic imo ... has he really said anything that bad? "BBC’s Lineker endorses video in which Israel is accused of ‘textbook genocide’. The taxpayer shouldn’t be forced to pay for this level of ignorance. Lineker needs to get down from his self-appointed pedestal.”
I think it's more a case of he's been asked not to get involved in politics and by sharing this he's testing their (the BBC) resolve. Personally I don't give a **** what he tweets, nor do I get on board with this political neutrality that the BBC seem to demand
That's fair enough but I don't see this as politics tbh, it's basic human rights. If this was Russia some would be saying people shouldn't be silenced. I just find it all a bit hysterical and 'fetch me the smelling salts, someone said something'.
Or perhaps he actually believes what he was saying about Braverman, who's now been rightly sacked ... ... and that Israel are behaving in a way that much of the world is worried about. I'm sure he could find better, quicker ways to negotiate a settlement if he wants to leave. I said at the start of this thread that Braverman would be sacked before Lineker ever was, I was right.
