Bit obvious...but a bit ****in brilliant too! I played the drums for years as a kid to early 20s, sold my pride and joy kit out of necessity when I wrote my car off to cover the excess, but they were gathering dust at that point. Me mates grew up faster than me! This sounds like it isn't that hard to play on drums, technically it isn't... but to get that feel you need to be a proper player. JB was the proper player of proper players. The best drummer of all time IMHO. Also, my favorite song from a band of a hundred tunes. I'll always listen to this.
Funny, when I think of John Bonham's playing, this is the song I think of. A powerful player, always sounds like he's whacking the **** out of the drums, but didn't seem to take much of a back swing with the sticks...just using the sheer power and strength in his forearms. Brilliant drummer, and absolutely intrinsic to Zep's sound.
I have to admit there were some cracking bands about in the 70s, there were some great bands recently but they just seem to disappear before you can really enjoy them.
Now that triggers another fantastic memory that I'm too drunk to explain properly I doubt anyone will be interested but I'll post the whole story of me, Mike and Sheffield Arena tomorrow.
Ive never been to Rock City but I've always thought of it as one of the most legendary venues ever...because they had full page ads every month in kerrang and metal hammer when I bought them both every month. I'm imagining working there for that long is like a Vietnam kinda scenario..."ive seen some ****"
