Anyone know why the BBC 1 6 o'clock news was broadcast from the Street Life Museum yesterday?

Reeta Chakrabarti is from Hull and the BBC should broadcast from our great city far more, it looked splendid last night.

Chancellors Autumn budget statement - events like that the beeb like to visit some random town/city to get the views of the 'ordinary' man/woman re. budget announcements; nevermind that it takes financial experts 24 hours or so to work out the finer details ''lets go to Harry from Hull and see what he thinks ....

What did they dig up? Did they find Charles Ist's bones under the Humber Bridge carpark or summat?

It's Henry viii's old fort which they're making a feature of.

also because of the devolution announcement.
As asked to a random passer by ... "do you know what devolution is"? "not sure, is it the opposite of evolution".
Actually, that was possibly a very clever answer! A backward step.
I'm not a fan of devolution, just another layer adding cost, complication and division, but as was said by the councillor who was also against it, you have to play the game to get the considerable money (or words to that effect). Madness.

Way, way out of my knowledge base, and I don't know if they eventually won their argument, but the local ecology groups were against the destruction of the existing trees, which they claimed were condemned with very doubtful assessments, but they also strongly objected to the choice of replacement trees, which they say were non-indigenous, which would have a significant impact on bio-diversity as local birds, plants insects etc would not find them as useful.

Hey ho, if, big if it seems, they ever find and charge who cut the tree down at Sycamore Gap they can claim they did it for local birds, plants insects etc. We'll have no sycamores here Tubbs, this is a local gap for local trees. :emoticon-0125-mmm:
