Did he say that say that to make sure that you rounded up the 13 pound charge to a nice even 20 quid? That's something that pisses me off about Taxi's, seemingly only occupation you feel you have to give someone extra money for no reason what so ever.
All the meals where you’re thinking “ you handed me a menu , took my choice and brought the plate to the table” All just what’s required in order to complete the transaction of buying your meal .
https://amp.theguardian.com/environ...-carbon-emissions-than-poorest-66-report-says Richest 1% account for more carbon emissions than poorest 66%, report says ‘Polluter elite’ are plundering the planet to point of destruction, says Oxfam after comprehensive study of climate inequality The richest 1% of humanity is responsible for more carbon emissions than the poorest 66%, with dire consequences for vulnerable communities and global efforts to tackle the climate emergency, a report says. The most comprehensive study of global climate inequality ever undertaken shows that this elite group, made up of 77 million people including billionaires, millionaires and those paid more than US$140,000 (£112,500) a year, accounted for 16% of all CO2emissions in 2019 – enough to cause more than a million excess deaths due to heat, according to the report….. The Oxfam report shows that while the wealthiest 1% tend to live climate-insulated, air-conditioned lives, their emissions – 5.9bn tonnes of CO2 in 2019 – are responsible for immense suffering. Using a “mortality cost” formula – used by the US Environmental Protection Agency, among others – of 226 excess deaths worldwide for every million tonnes of carbon, the report calculates that the emissions from the 1% alone would be enough to cause the heat-related deaths of 1.3 million people over the coming decades…. The suffering falls disproportionately upon people living in poverty, marginalised ethnic communities, migrants and women and girls, who live and work outside or in homes vulnerable to extreme weather, according to the research. These groups are less likely to have savings, insurance or social protection, which leaves them more economically, as well as physically, at risk from floods, drought, heatwaves and forest fires. The UN says developing countries account for 91% of deaths related to extreme weather. The report finds that it would take about 1,500 years for someone in the bottom 99% to produce as much carbon as the richest billionaires do in a year…. Edit: The wealth gap between nations only partly explains the disparity. The report shows that in 2019 – the most recent year for which there is comprehensive data – high-income countries (mostly in the global north) were responsible for 40% of global consumption-based CO2 emissions, while the contribution from low-income countries (mostly in the global south) was a negligible 0.4%. Africa, which is home to about one in six of the world population, was responsible for just 4% of emissions. A less discussed but faster-growing problem is inequality within countries. Billionaires are still overwhelmingly white, male and based in the US and Europe, but members of this influential class of super-rich can increasingly be found in other parts of the world. Millionaires are even more dispersed. The report says this is bad news for the climate on multiple levels. The extravagant carbon footprint of the 0.1% – from superyachts, private jets and mansions to space flights and doomsday bunkers – is 77 times higher than the upper level needed for global warming to peak at 1.5C.
There are a few posts on Facebook saying that former S.A.F.C. player, Leighton James, has had a stroke and has a bleed on the brain. Let's hope that he doesn't appear on his own thread for a while. Get well soon, Leighton I seem to remember him taking all corners (either side) and throw-ins, and because of it we used to call him 'the ball boy'
Not sure if anyone listens to podcasts, but Simon Jordan has one called "Upfront", very interesting interview with Rick Parry, Chairman of the EFL about the birth of the Premier league and the Sky TV deal. Not as clear cut as some may think. Sky wanted to go in with ITV, ITV have the Sunday on regular telly, Sky have Monday night. It was ITV that got greedy and awkward so sky said "f**k it". Canny listen.
I remember a long time ago them saying the place with fewest cars , the Maldives, would be first to disappear
Old man O'Nien turns 29 today. Interesting that we gave him a contract that will end when he's 33, but then actively trying to push anyone over 30 out the door.....
Mowbray has been quite open in saying that O'Nien plays an active part in discussions with him and the coaching team. He's clearly admired and respected by everyone at the club as well as seeming entirely at home in the NE ... ... so I'd be amazed, and disappointed, if he doesn't continue at the club as his playing career ends. As with any group there has to be some senior players hence Dack coming in who's apparently another big influence around the place. O'Nien has been every manager's fall back, when things were difficult, so he's obviously not as sweet and innocent as he looks. His energy and enthusiasm seem limitless and I'm sure he plays a massive part in settling in the new players, you can't buy what he provides imo. In my opinion he was made club captain for as many reasons off the pitch as those on the pitch.
You never know it sounds bad now but it might be a god send in the long term. How do you think other clubs fans will react now when they see these clubs getting players in in January, if the Mags do it they will be hated more than ever. I believe it’s good that these cheating bastards are being brought to the forefront now. The premier league are just digging an ever deeper hole.
Quite right. I just received a nasty looking official letter that I thought was from HMRC asking me for their money ... ... it was £500 winter heating allowance I hadn't even thought of applying for
TBH mate, its just another nail in my already one eye on football these days. Turkeys have voted for Christmas with over turning it. It will benefit about 5 or 6 clubs out of 20 and just help strengthen thoes with money. I remember a few years ago when the TV deal for the Prem was an equal share between all 20, 5 or 6 of the "top clubs" moaned, put it to a vote and the other 16 agreed that prise money should be based on leauge position. Several chances to stick a spanner in the works and teams miss their chance. And as for them up the road, they already think everyone hates them but the media love them so do you think they'll be arsed when they finally win a leauge or the Champions Leauge? I'd love to be a fly on the wall when these things get put to a vote, favours getting called in etc. Add to that FIFA just giving Saudi the world cup in 12 years time says it all really. Football is circling the drain. Bit of a rant there but hey ho.
