Piskie - you and Cym would go 'out of the trenches and over the top' for Wenger. Me? - I cannot easily forget the several years of muddled thinking, signings, tactical balls-ups etc etc. Of course he has been our best Manager ever, and taken over 15 years -only SAF 'might' better him. But time marches on, and sell by date is nigh.
Disagree fella. I reckon we'd still be much worse off without Wenger. The financial situation of the club isn't going to change by getting rid of him, and I think we'd struggle to attract young players who cite their reasons for joining Arsenal as being Wenger.
Wow, Chelsea. Bloody awful for most of that game. A £50 Mil player only getting 10 minutes in a game like that. Also its annoying that we seem to be stuck on 7th despite our great form.
with respect, it was people like you who were going on about arsenal not getting into the top 6 a month or two ago
with equal respect . where in the table would we be now if we had not floundered about near the relegation zone for the first part of this season. ? and whos fault was that ?
have i come across another anti wenger merchant who presumably doesnt go to games? suggest some names who could replace wenger and get in the top 4 for the next 14 years on the same wage budget and money he's spending...
have i detected another blinkered supporter that thinks the world starts and ends with Arsene Wenger ? he and SAF are of a different era . That era is coming to an end very fast. The only question is . Do we still want to compete , or be happy to be also rans at every competition ? There are MANY great manager out there. Question 2 is . do we want to give them ALL the resources required to compete. Just look at us now . We are all over the moon about the chance . the CHANCE.. of finishing fourth . ps . what if we DONT make the top 4 , and Spurs do. That will be a fitting epitaph for Mr Wenger. The man who lifted the spuds from our shadow. god forbid.
Its this simple to me If we finish this season below Spurs , he has failed Arsenal Football Club lets hope to god im proved wrong .
its easy to say he should be sacked, if you have that view then why dont you start naming some managers who could do better than him on the same budget, its a simple question..
Thats the point isnt it. The budget. We are now led to believe that Arsene wanted to spend on players but the board wouldnt open the coffers. So we are now comitted to being also rans in most competitions .? It seems we are all clinging to the liferaft of the upcoming fifa fair play rules , and the financial pitch being levelled again. What if that doest happen and the big clubs skirt their way around the rules ( im sure they will have enough loopholes if Fifa have drawn them up ) Will we spend on big names in the managerial field and the playing side.? Or will we keep digging in the bargain bins and getting the likes of Chamakh ? If you offered enough incentive im sure we could entice Guardiola here , he has expressed interest , but he wont come if he has to work with "limited" resources.
so on one hand you say wenger doesnt have the resources to compete at the top level, yet you slate him for not winning things? you then go on to state that guardiola (i agree probably the one manager who could in time keep arsenal at the same sort of level) wouldnt go to arsenal because of the lack of funds so lets get this straight, you sack wenger, then what? you then find out that high quality coaches wont go there because the budget leaves them behind man city, united and chelsea, and then what? i've got to say you'd be in the smelly brown stuff if wenger goes
I've never been one to harp on about trophies. What I do expect is 'continuous improvement'. By that I mean buying better for the future - examples of where I think Wenger failed in that respect are Squishy, Silvestre, not selling Senderdross. I'm also concerned that not closing on Cahill or Jags for a few quid - but buying Merte may be another example. Given the ridiculous club playthings that Chavski and ManC have become, how could we expect to outbuy them? So we are left to battle ManU as usual, and now upstarts 'Pool who won't finish in the top5, and the damn Spuds who might.
Berg - I probbaly agree with you on many issues but your disappointment we didn't sign Jag and Cahill baffles me, do you think these two have proved to be Arsenal class this season ? AW always says that he will only buy players who will improve the team, would these two ?
Transfer talk has unsettled them - and guess what? by not playing well they WILL be sold. Player power. AW did make offers - so he thought they would. - just being a tightwad - AGAIN.
Fair enough. I always thought Cahill could be a squad player but never really believed Jag was good enough for us, could be wrong. But having bought Mert do we need a 4th CB ? A decent utility option who could play full back or CB I'll go for.....
