I’ll tell you what really ought to happen, water companies should start using their millions of profits to start making a modernised sewage system that can cope with modern demands, rather than pumping all manner of **** into our waterways and buying their shareholders new Ferraris each year.

It's not even like those shareholders are British! Over 70% foreign owned. Utter madness.

I knew the font of all knowledge would come to the rescue (not606) not you OLM.
Anyway so all that means is it must be the cows farting and belching that causes all the problems.

If there’s one thing that should never have been privatised, it’s the water. It’s not like it has allowed for any competition, as we’re all locked into a provider geographically. Its literally just put the destiny and health of public waterways into the hands of profit driven private business, which could be owned by anyone, anywhere.

I read a really interesting piece on the gent who invented the current sewer systems and how it was the adopted across the UK. It also went into how it's now a issue today and how it all works etc. The gent was joseph bazalgette. If you have some times have a read on him... I'll see if I can find the piece I read later

Useless fact of the day - His Great Grandson (Edward Bazalgette) was lead guitarist in The Vapours.

Apparently, they thought it might make them easier to market in America, but Turning Japanese only got to No.36 in the Billboard Chart, so I'm not sure that it made much difference.

Bazalgette is a real unsung hero - as many civil engineers are - his work in designing and building the sewers in London essentially eradicated Cholera and Typhoid from the capital. The obvious benefits of the system were quickly replicated across the country.

Did they go to the same school for businessmen as Assem Allam?

Doubt it, otherwise they'd have shortened the name to The Vaping Vapours.

one of terry pratchett's books was set in the 1800s and included a fictionalised meeting of people such as bazalgette and others plus subsequent events.

    Love Terry Pratchett books
Once went to Waterstones to get his new book and have it signed by him.
He was really pleasant and chatty
My daughter had her arm in a sling so he signed that too <laugh>
