"We are stardust (billion year old carbon), we are golden (caught in the devil's bargain) and we've got to get ourselves back to the garden." Genius, if everyone listened and understood these few short words the planet would be a much better and safer place to live in. Happy Birthday Joni.
Flying back from Qatar this weekend., I could not stop playing this record on the in flight entertainment...
Is this the impossible question? I guess it could depend on your age and what mood you are in but I couldn't pick one over the other and they are far, far ahead of any other female musical artists in my opinion.
I tend not to have favourites whatever gender or genre. I play what suits my mood or now and then put my music folder on random. I would include Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone amongst the greats there's others of course.
Today marks the 60th anniversary of the assasination of John F Kennedy, I was just 1 year old (with my 2nd birthday on the 23rd) so I can't remember where I was!
I remember it so clearly! I used to go home for lunch from the village school in those days and heard about it then. It was on TV non-stop for days, and most strongest memory is watching the newsreader announce that he had died. The look on that poor guy’s face haunted me for ages.
Just started listening to Rob Reiner's new podcast which he claims to finally uncover who did the dirty deed... https://open.spotify.com/show/6hD4x...96aSw?sp_cid=8496916cd89e1f9d1bd947083ba8acb3
RIP Geordie Walker, guitarist of Killing Joke. KJ were one of my absolute favourites in the 80's and managed that rare feat of being a genre all of their own - a heady mix of punk, post-punk, industrial, goth& dance. They were covered by Metallica (The Wait) and influenced Nirvana (Come as You Are 'borrows' their 'Eighties' riff). 2015's I am the Virus was remarkably prescient.
Really sad one this. A unique guitarist, and taken far too soon. Sent Youth a text earlier, can't imagine how he's feeling, poor guys.
Every dentist’s favourite client, the great Shane McGowan, has died aged 65 Two legends teamed up for this classic RIP Shane
Ah, I couldn't pick just one song, Shane just had the gift to write about and express the human experience good and bad. A great loss to music R.I.P. Shane...
