Barton's tackle was wereckless and he would have got some stick if it was rightly given.

That was never a penalty, their player fell back into ours. Nor was the one in the first half. And no I ain't biased because Helgs one against Chelsea was never a pen either. Soccer's degenerating into a non-contact sport. It was however good to see Helguson get a smack in the chops yesterday. That's what footie's all about.

Just watch it again North. Their guy actually fell back onto our two players and was going down before Barton even touched him. This idea of "contact" that the experts keep banging on about is rubbish. Contact is allowed, it has to be sufficient to put a bloke on his arse.

I did briefly entertain the idea of starting a thread on these line myself but, as I obviously view Barton with the skunk eye, I decided not to bother. Aside from the two non penalties given, he did failed to control an awkwardly bouncing pass to him for their first goal and was perilously close to the penalty area when he gave away a needless free kick for hand ball.

However other aspects of his game were first class, such as the cross that won the corner before the third goal and the cross from which Helguson scored that goal. We got lucky with those penalty non-decisions, but if you think back to the Aston Villa match we certainly didn’t then.

Derry wouldn’t have made those fouls, but he also wouldn’t have put in those crosses. You pays your money and you takes your choice.

The 2nd one was stonewall, you can't do what he did and not get the ball.

Best player we got and best we've had in almost two decades. Love him to bits, will end up as a Loftus Road legend. Our captain guides his ship through uncharted territory and into the new with a brilliant future. Keep up the good work Joey <ok>

    All hail the captain.

Swords....I can only assume that you are, in fact blind, or you really do know nothing about the game. Surely you're on the wind up mate?
The first one with Barton was marginal, but the 2nd one on Huth was nailed on. He wacked him from behind and got nowhere near the ball. The Chelsea penalty was also nailed on, with a definite push in the back. I suppose Drogba's wasn't a straight red either? Yeah....c'mon...you're on the wind up, yeah?

Barton runs around well and credit where it's due played in a wonderful cross for what turned out to be the winner . However he is not a great tackler nor a great captain. It wasn't a penalty as it wasn't given... We were very lucky because it was a stonewall IMO ... The Stoke players had lost their heads by then and also any reason from the ref ... The very reason IMO why it wasn't given it had **** all to do with German gravity knobjockey my sweetpea x

Neither of those would have been given 20+ years ago, pre-Prem era, back when men were men and Bross were doing the charts :emoticon-0105-wink:. In fact Drogba's tackle wouldn't have been a red either. I do think the two-footed lunge rule has been a good one though and Drog's was rightfully sent for a bath.

However, in the penalty area someone just needs to be touched and its penalties all round these days. Its rubbishing the game. Helgs went down like a ton of bricks when the Chelsea player nudged him and Huth threw himself into our two players and waited for a tap before he collapsed in a heap. Ref was conned in the Chelsea game but was spot on yesterday me reckons. <ok>

You are wrong Swords. Luiz clattering into Helguson's back was a clear penalty, Barton kicking Huth from behind likewise. Sure both were played for, but they were still fouls in the penalty area.

I have some sympathy Swords. Rules are getting more complicated and opinion based (active/inactive ffs?!?) and if we are not careful we will end up like rugby, where the quality of the ref is the most important thing in the game. But I think you will find that in 'the modern game' both of these were pens, and for once we got away with it.
