More interesting on the BBC text which currently says: NZ 397-4 A wide, followed by a four! This is turning into the over that New Zealand so desperately needed.
Ordinarily that would be nowhere near enough for SA. But if they can move the new balls to the extent that Aus did, and if they can extract as much turn later as Aus did, then who knows. But really SA should never have chosen to bat first in those overhead conditions. They either misread the conditions, or were too stubborn or afraid to divert from their usual bat-first tactic.
I think the opening successful Aus got was more conditions than pitch, so for me it will be down to the turn.
The fact that Markram and Maharaj have both struck first ball - not to mention Shamsi almost taking two in his first over - says a lot about those first six overs of pace. 60-0 is a heck of a start.
This is where Australia probably got it right to select Marnus ahead of Stoinis. Marnus brings a calm head to the situation (not that he's guaranteed to score). Whereas Stoinis is very much like Moeen, in the sense that they quite often turn a wobble into a full blown collapse.
I wonder how Maxwell will approach this? His usual style would be extremely risky but if it paid off the match would be all but done in 7 or 8 overs.
Regardless of who wins this, I think we have to acknowledge what a fantastic hundred that was from Miller.
Yeah this situation was never likely to be suited to someone like Maxwell. One more wicket quickly for SA please.
All the talk is about SA decision after winning the toss but I think the really poor decision was not to open with spin!!
Probably too little too late. But you never know. If only SA had another 40 to 50 runs to play with (either from their bat, or from a better start with the ball).
Potentially good news for Hampshire... It's being strongly rumoured that Ali Orr is coming to us from Sussex, finally a decent opening bat option to go with Middleton. He can also keep a bit as well. We might well have been interested in Haines (Sussex) as well, but I think he'll be staying put (I think he only recently signed a new contract with them anyway).
Looking at the score now, I would agree with you. They seems to have kept India in check so far. Do India have someone as destructive as Pant in their lower order. Will do very well to get 250.
Given Australia's batting depth, maybe 30 runs too shorts. Oz in the 47th over.by 5 tickets. Hope I am.totally wrong and India win!
Why would you not review that? Even if you thought it was out chances are it would have been umpire's call for something. Turns out impact was outside the line.
