... although there's always a nasty edge to games between Nottingham and Sheffield.

"A man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after the death of ice hockey player Adam Johnson, whose neck was cut during a match.

The Nottingham Panthers player was hit in the neck by a skate during a match against the Sheffield Steelers on 28th October."

That's been coming as the lad could hardly claim it was accidental.

"Hit" is an interesting word. I thought when the unfortunate news broke that he'd been accidentally stood on?

I just assumed it was a collision tbh.

One of my sons took me to the Panthers and I didn't enjoy it at all. The worst aspect was when two opponents took their gloves off and had a fist fight as part of the game. The crowd were baying for blood, I found it pathetic.

The lad who's been arrested went flying with his skate pointing upwards and sliced across Johnson's neck, possibly one of the worst videos I have ever seen and I would advise people to not look at it.

I was once punched in the throat by a lad who knew what he was doing. Fortunately we worked in pairs and my mate put him away.

I thought I was going to die tbh, it took me three weeks to recover properly. Even the impact of a skate, at speed, could be enough to finish you imo.

Thanks for confirming... I try not to watch anything where people get harmed. Prayers for the players family and friends.

I'm sure I read somewhere that some players are paid to kick **** out of the opposition

I've seen the video of the lead up to it, but not the final second. If you look at how the guy raises his foot, it's definately to deliberately hit him, but obviously not with the intent of hitting him in the neck and killing him, just of stopping him getting past and possibly scoring. Also, he's apparently got form for being a nasty sort of player. Manslaughter seems appropriate.

I have seen the lead up to the incident. At firsr I though he had clipped a player and was off balance when his leg flew up. Obviously not if they have charged him. Seems horrendous to die on a sports pitch like that.

Not to compare and contrast but I always remember Philip Hughes the aussie cricketer getting a bouncer in the neck and passing away. They modified the helmets to try and prevent a repeat. I look back at some of the early cricket series I watched when bouncers galore couls be bowled and wondered how serious injuries werent common place.
