He's a decent player and fills in a number of positions. Seen him play LB, RB and wide right and left. Always puts a shift in. Needs to he playing senior footy regularly pretty soon.

He really does seem to be a class apart at that level, if our squad wasn't so full with talent I'd suggest we start giving him first team minutes.

I think he struggled to get a run out at Hartlepool didn’t he? Kind of stuck between too good for youth football and not quite doing enough at blokes level maybe? Needs a loan where they’re going to persist and play him week in week out

He barely got a sniff, four league appearances i think, they were struggeling badly and probably didn't want to put a young lad in.

Sunderland AFC Under-21s picked up another three points in the Premier League Cup after a 1-0 win against Bristol City.

Ellis Taylor scored the only goal of the game with a well converted penalty in the second half.

A tightly-contested first half saw the hosts look to take an early lead. Sam Pearson went through one-on-one before Kelechi Chibueze, on his first start, made a smart save to deny the opener.

Just moments later, Stefan Bajic had to make a reaction save to deny the Lads taking the lead following Taylor's corner.

25 minutes from time, the Black Cats took the lead and victory was sealed. Second-half substitute, Josh Robertston was brought down inside the area and captain Taylor cooly converted the penalty to the goalkeepers right-hand side.

Graeme Murty's side now go to second in Group E just behind Tottenham Hotspur who travel to Eppleton in December.

Sunderland AFC: Chibueze, Crompton (Chiabi), Fieldson (Bainbridge), Bell, Taylor, Burke (Robertson), Middlemas, Jones, Spellman, Watson (Ryder), Gardiner.

Substitutes: Cameron, Bainbridge, Chiabi, Robertson, Ryder.

That’s a very good win tonight. Taylor seems to be doing the business lately.

Jewison Bennette requests to play for Sunderland Under-21s

    upload_2023-11-15_9-30-11.jpeg

…. Bennette, who is currently on international duty with Costa Rica Under-23s as they prepare for a two-legged CONCACAF Nations League quarter-final tie against Panama, has not featured in any of Sunderland’s last five senior squads.

Bennette accepts he is not currently in Mowbray’s thoughts for a senior starting spot, so to aid his development and ensure he remains match fit for Costa Rica, the 19-year-old winger has requested to continue playing for the Under-21s.

“Jewison is fine,” said Mowbray. “These squad issues are going to be around (as players return) and I have to make the decisions as to who is going to play and who isn’t.

“I've had a few conversations with Jewison. He wants to be playing football and he doesn’t want his international situation with Costa Rica to be disturbed too much.

“That’s why he’s been playing for the Under-21s, because if he sits on our bench and gets a few minutes... he might as well get 90 minutes with the Under-21s. These are the discussions I’ve had with him.”

Bennette’s senior involvement this season has been restricted to a starting appearance in August’s Carabao Cup defeat to Crewe and a brief substitute run-out in September’s league win over Southampton.

He finds himself challenging a host of fellow young forwards for a place in Sunderland’s senior matchday squad, with Mowbray impressed with his willingness to drop down to the Under-21s to keep himself active.

“I would never push him to go and play in the Under-21s,” added the Black Cats boss. “We have discussed it, and his attitude is that it is better to get 90 minutes on a Friday night than five minutes or no minutes the next day.

“That is a huge credit to him, and it is only going to stand him in good stead moving forward. At his age, he just needs to be playing football. That’s what the kid wants to do - so I would view it as a real positive. It says a lot about him, it’s positive.”

I don’t think it’s that strange, Clocky. Some managers have punished players by putting them with the under-21s. Mowbray appears just to be clarifying that’s not the case and praising Jewi’s attitude.

I hope that is the case, as Jewi is just the type of player we have lacked this season imo., but the emergence of Rus , Adil , Ba and Mayenda look to be the answer in that respect . As already suggested a loan may be the answer for Jewi. as he has probably already missed any chance this season to make an impact, sad but who knows what next season will bring. One thing we can say is following SAFC is never dull.

I'd have thought so, yes. Not sure about who plays a similar style to us down there though.

    REPORT:U18s defeated at the AoL

Sunderland AFC Under-18s were defeated 2-1 at the Academy of Light as Nottingham Forest came from behind to take all three points in the U18 Premier League.

The young Black Cats dominated the opening proceedings with Jack Whittaker and Josh Robertson firing shots wide from close range.

The opener came just before the break as Ben Creamer was brought down inside the area and it was the winger who stepped up to put the Lads ahead.

The visitors grew into the game as the second half played out and the equaliser came 15 minutes from time. A mix up at the back allowed Connor Brown to make things level from close-range.

Fin Lynch's side were reduced to ten men with five minutes to play as Jayden Sekete received his second yellow card for a late challenge.

Into stoppage time and Forest claimed all three points as Danny Anijsko finished beyond Dan Cameron to seal the Premier League tie.

Sunderland AFC: Cameron, Sekete, Bell, Kindon (Parker), Beattie, Jones (Holcroft), Whittaker, Robertson, Obolo (Hunt), Creamer (Geragusian), Ogunsuyi.

Substitutes: Metcalf, Parker, Holcroft, Hunt, Geragusian
