Why would they bother designing and building an engine if FOM are still against the entry of another team?

Infact this will really steel up the resistance of most of the grid.

FOM and the teams always insisted they'd accept a team that "added value" and regularly cited a manufacturer as an example. (They criticised the previous Cadillac deal as mere sponsorship)

It was a lie of course, they only said that thinking it would never happen, but still, the bluff has been called.

You have to admire Michael Andretti. Every time F1 moves the goalpost, he goes away and comes back with a better offer. To the point of convincing America's largest car company to set up a hugely expensive engine project.

Posturing. They say they will be a PU supplier by 2028 so about 4 years away. So about the same timescale that Red Bull will have had by 2026 to have a PU.
My guess is they won't invest a penny/cent until FPM allow them to race, then they might have second thoughts on a PU - but by that time it's too late and they are in!!

some of the engine makers don't actually want to make for other teams as they don't actually make that much and supporting yet another team is a drain on resources.

however the main issue is revenue being divided 12 ways not 10 so unless the fiat and f1 start snaffling away revenue and capping the team shares at 10/12 then this will continue

f1 could use the money until teams do come in to do a lot of things I suppose

I always thought a Caddy as a luxury limo and doubt 95% of Cadillac clients ever heard of F1 or care about racing in general.

The main customers must be retirees living in Florida. That can`t possibly fund a Formula 1 programme.

They make luxury cars and SUVs. Some are actually quite nice looking considering plenty of American cars are a bit meh.

I think the base model on that is just a 2ltr inline 4, about 240hp, rear wheel drive, but I think they do a performance version too.

Anybody watched the Brawn documentary yet? Watched the first couple of episodes and it's pretty damn good. Especially the Max and Bernie shenanigans.

I was reading the BBC Sport article about it about 30 minutes ago. It’s on Disney+ through Star here in the UK. Interesting to see Ross Brawn called ‘the most cut-throat, ruthless competitor' by Horner of all people.

Not seen it, but I assume it’s said in praise/admiration, rather than as a negative?

Paraphrasing here, but it was something along the lines of: People think that Ross Brawn is this cuddly friendly guy, but he's a ruthless competitor who would sell his grandma to get what he wants.

The whole narrative at this point is that Brawn are being accused of cheating with the double diffuser, so I doesn't come across as respect.

Luca di Montezemolo is the best though. Wow he is one sad bitter old man. He's comes across like a scorned ex. All he had to do was make Brawn team principle at Ferrari.

Sounds interesting. Think I will see if I can get a Disney+ trial and watch all 4 episodes.
