I think it was because their left back, Drameh, was getting over the halfway line too often, very quick lad.

It looked like Mowbray knew that, as soon as we'd gone ahead, Birmingham would attack us down the flanks as they'd done when we scored the first.

Ba's energy helped steady things while Mowbray worked out what to do next. Fifteen minutes later he brought on some serious attacking threats, we scored and the game was won.

I didn't grasp why Ba came on, at first, but it seemed to calm things down and allow us a breather ...

... Mowbray would probably laugh at my explanation but, whatever happened, it worked.

I just assumed it was his they both seemed to take it over the line - Regardless of who the last touch came off he wouldn’t have scored if he wasn’t there. We actually looked a threat every time we put balls into the box from set pieces which was good to see.

Dunno I can’t help it, I could probably ignore if it was just people trolling but they’re proper fans and it is the real world they’re just choosing a different platform to voice their opinions.. which is fine but when it’s absolutely slating a young lad after one performance who more than likely looks on that platform to see what’s being said I just don’t like it. Done the same with Hemir yet continually defend their favourites who are ****e week in week out never mind their debut. Makes us look like c*nts.

Great insight I would say. Ba is a really good wide man at tracking back and even winning stuff in the air. Brums threats are at full back and Rooney is adamant full backs have to provide width. Mowbray may well nod sagely at your observation.

I stated probably 99% of us wanted Pritch brought on but well done TM. He got his subs spot on imo.

Stick to this place. We may not agree on everything but people can always back up their views and that earns respect. We are all just sunderland fans wanting the best here, just have different views, but all valid.

They must've purposely missed out the defensive stats..

A hybrid of Luke when we are in possession and Seelt when we are defending set pieces would be perfect !

Basically the number is what percentile he's in compared with other CB's. So the passing one's he's really high but the defensive actions are low. Stats can be misleading though because it's not a percentage of duels won, just how many he won. So teams who defend a lot will obviously have defenders with more defensive actions to an extent.

Exactly this! Or Seelt with O'niens ability on the ball

Its also ridiculous of them to compare the 2 of them after Seelt has started 1 game. I like the look of seelt n i think there will be games where he needs to start with ballard

I also think theres games that suit o9 more, good that we have options

Sure is mate, I think having so many options is probably becoming a nightmare for TM. He's said himself he really wants to see more of Mayenda so what does that mean for Rusyn/Ba/Aouchiche etc who are all fighting over a place at the top end of the pitch and i'd be happy to have any of them in there!

Then comes the RB debate once they're all fit. I like Hume but the more i see of Huggins I think he's tremendous not to mention Pembele who hasn't been signed to sit on the bench. Big decisions but great problems to have.

Loved watching the 90mins yesterday. So happy for the two centre halves. Must be difficult not playing even when they know they not the first choice yet. They did themselves justice for their first starts.

Sloppy in possession at times. Most of Birminghams chances came from us giving the ball away. Ekwah didn't have his best game but showed up for a pass off the back 4 all game. Neil same but had a bit of pressure of being captain for the first time.

Roberts had a better game. Clarke just goes on and on. His right leg is worth £15 mill now on its own. Bellingham plays beyond his years. Rusyn looks quality. He'll run all game. Made numerous runs we didn't pick out. It'll come.

I love Patterson. No end to how high he can go.

Hume and Huggins. What can you say. Wouldn't swap them for anyone. It's all opinions but anyone who thought Huggins wasn't MOM is wrong <laugh>.

Ekwah struggled the entire game. On the day, it was obvious at first but after three rd runs on the tv not so bad. Both Ekwah and Neil had mates in the tackle on numerous occasions which needs sorting out pretty quickly.

Can't fault your reckoning Smug, Ba at times looks a bit clumsy but we've got a right player there and TM is handling our young group like an old mother hen.

If we compare it to last season which was more favourable then it appears that he's not in quite as good form as he was then:

    IMG_2093.jpeg

However form goes up as well as down and there's no reason to assume he won't have a stronger second half to the season. It's a matter of opinion but I'm not too concerned about him having a low number of clearances, it's because he brings it out instead of hoofing it.

Aerial duels are definitely a weakness. However we should have enough big lads in the team now for O'Nien to spend his time during corners off the pitch performing surgery on a kitten. For me that weakness is counterbalanced by his passing and the quality of his overall play.

So, we can conclude that aerials are his weak point and he's not currently in top form. We can't however conclude that he's **** or that the only reason people rate him is because he's a nice lad. Both are nonsense and quite insulting.
