Ted Heath was the **** that killed off the traditional British corner shop / off licence - abolished 'price maintenance' - a mechanism that meant all shops including supermarkets had to sell alcohol at the same price - overnight the likes of Tesco could sell wines and spirits for prices that the corner shops couldn't even buy at ...

Ironic also really, as wasn't Thatcher the daughter of an off licence owner? Heath led to her becoming prominent in the Tory party.

I read the other day, Neil Kinnock suggested that the top few hundred British businesses would be nationalised if the Labour Party took charge. Some Labour man was saying it in a documentary he asked Kinnock "So, what, you're gonna nationalise Marks 'n Spencers? Come on Neil." Obviously just before Blair become party leader and dragged them to the middle.

This is why the UK desperately needs a middle ground with some sense between both sides.

I doubt it would ever have happened, but the context of the statement by Kinnock was that he was under pressure from the traditional left wing side of the Party. Obviously when Kinnock was leader, the traditional unionist elements were extremely powerful in Labour, they hadn't long ago changed their image from the plain red flag to a rose.

Just imagine if that were actually true half the posters on this board and most of the Watford ones would have no option but to commit a public mass suicide

Meanwhile in the 'safe zone' in Gaza

Dr Mohamed Abu Selmia, manager of the key Al-Shifa hospital, has told the BBC 32 people have died in recent days.
Three premature babies and seven people had died due to a lack of oxygen, he said.
Several other patients needing dialysis risk dying in "the next couple of days" as the treatment is no longer available, he said.
Abu Selmia said the hospital had also been in touch with the Red Cross to try and co-ordinate the burial of the bodies, of which there were about 150 in the hospital - but was told that was currently not feasible.

He added - this is detail which some readers may find distressing - that dogs were eating the corpses.

International pressure is growing on Israel now to end this killing, but the world should have acted much sooner instead of giving them the green light to butcher Gazans. It's absolutely ****ing sick what has happened and is still happening there.

They literally see Palestinians as sub humans, cannon fodder in the way of their expansionist aims

I’m not being funny but at least they aren’t going to waste. Circle of life. The dogs need to survive as well.

I’d happily have my corpse used to feed some hungry animals.
