So, in the last hour, the team that could guarantee Shelbourne European competition next season have delivered (by winning the Irish Cup Final). Fourth placed Shelbourne get European football and that 4th place finish itself was due in no small part to Shelbourne's acquisition of Hull talent in the form of Jarvis & Wood, delivered to Shelbourne by Acun. Acun, who wanted this team to qualify for Europe next year have out done his desire and have got there a year early. What exactly and why exactly did Acun walk a few days ago? He would have a team for Europe, he could have sent over other academy players, enticed Turkish players. Instead he has walked, leaving invested money behind and his European football dream behind for now. Was it a case of knowing that Duff could'nt be handled, manipulated, fired (that would have left Acun in a very bad light with their fans and the players apparently too - not sure what Jarvis & Wood think of him but the club player of the year who is off to Lincoln waxed lyrical about Duff). Did Acun see the writing on the wall - Duff wanted Irish players, Acun had bigger plans but realised he owned a parochial club. It's bizarre...and why just before the game that could (and now would) deliver European football. To me it is one nil to Duff unless there is some monumental sigh of relief by Acun that he gladly got out of there...it's a mystery.
I think he realised that Irish football isn't at a high enough level yet, the best Shelbourne prospect is heading to a mid table league one club. If Damian Duff is such a good manager, why no interest from bigger clubs? Also Shelbourne's european games will be against no-name clubs from eastern european leagues, they won't be playing Real Madrid at home.
Agree, the standard is not great. But, Acun was in it , I thought, for exactly what he could get from it - European football , and guarantee it year by year in such a small league.. Build them up over a few years, as he saw fit, to become his very own Rosenborg.
I think the issue is control, Acun probably didn't think he had it at Shelbourne, he hadn't brought in his own team to run the club and Duff wasn't his man. And if Greece is were Acun is looking for another club, then good luck to him.
High enough level? As clubs no But the players coming out of Ireland have been brilliant for many years Davie meyler? For us
If acun didn't do his own due diligence before investing and finding out about the standard after the fact then his a piss poor business man, which he obviously isn't. So I don't think it's to do with the standard. My personal opinion for what it's worth, Acun is all about control and potentially not a fan of being questioned/having people not agree with him. Hence the 2 club fall outs he's had so far. As I said previously, it hopefully won't effect us as he's got full control, but there will be a point in his ownership where he will have to be told what he needs to hear and not what he wants to hear.....
[ Hopefully they will tell him that in upcoming transfer window that we need another striker that doesn't have a toe made of bone china.
Since Shota left the MKM, he hasn't been inundated with offers but hopefully Acun has worked out that he just wasn't upto the EFL Championship demands. Maybe Greek football is different.
Maybe if we look Hard enough we can find the right reasons for him doing this not supposition , guesses, opinions and the usual’ FACTS’ . Ir maybe you are all right and he’ll piss iff in a year or twin and some can gloat and some can lament .
Give it time and Duff will come out with the 'it was the toughest choice of my career, and I took a long time agonising over my decision' guff if he's approached by another club. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Maybe the Shelbourne fans weren't happy that they weren't offered a free holiday trip to Antalya and didn't fancy a Kappa kit for next season.
I agree with your first paragraph, but on the second one, I think he's already been told what he needs to hear a few times. I don't think sacking Shota because the players couldn't make sense of him was part of his plan, and Rosenior seems to have given him a lot of feedback about what the club needs to do to be successful, even before he joined there were apparently all these meetings about changes around the wider club which needed to be put in place as part of Rosenior agreeing to come.
