Pearson would have won every game - apart from when he didn’t. In fact, if we’d kept Nige we would have never lost another game again. We would have been beating teams 3 or 4 nil and been top of the league - just like we would have done years ago if we’d kept hold of Cotts when we sacked him when we were bottom of the league. If we’d kept him we would have started our non-stop winning run with the very next game. SL could have read it here - and on OTIB. Instead we opted for LJ back then and repeated it with LM now. If only the Lansdowns had the same power of predicting the ‘if onlys’ like us fans we’d be in the champions league by now……! Those pesky Lansdowns need to look into their crystal balls like we fans do - the poor fools.
Versus comparative fixtures last season BCFC had improved post QPR by four points, the positive points difference now is +1. According to Championship 23/24 | Transfermarkt this squad worth puts it at 20th out of 24 clubs. Considering the number of injuries the club has BCFC may be outperforming expectation. Manning has been brought in on the proviso that the players they have at their disposal are promotion material. I can't see how this squad is top end in anything?
We all know only too well how bad City have been for several years and yesterday highlighted just about everything terrible about our lack of any progress under a couple of managers. The cupboard is about as bare as it can get but here we are with a generally regarded up and coming new breed of manager to try and change our course. Liam will have 2 weeks to see what he can drag from a bunch of players who look lost and without an idea as to what happens next. Playing from the edge of our own penalty area has led us to believe we can win games playing in that manner but history has proven those tactics to be outdated and useless for the current squad. Surely this bunch should be capable of playing better with some decent coaching, combined with tactical and positional nous, and I hope the international break will afford Liam the opportunity to look at video of our matches to pinpoint our vast deficiencies. I am not sure what he can do with our glaring lack of goal creations, and the follow up ability to stick it in the net, because I don't think what we currently have in that specific department is anywhere near good enough. Our next home game should show us if there has been enough time to make any changes by Liam visible out on the pitch as I think we need a radical overhaul of our entire approach as to how we play the game in it's entirety. Unless Liam is given the support that he clearly will need from us and the top suits he will fail like so many before him and if that should sadly be the case then we will truly know for sure and ever where the faults lie.
Sorry, I must have missed when we had enough cash or wages to buy any championship standard player recently, if you think Nige chose to bring in L1 & L2 players you are deluded, that’s all we can afford now.
Banter and WUMing aside, yesterday wasn’t great, but not definitive either. It’s not Liams team and he can be forgiven for a poor performance. 10 games we can judge.
So we judge LM when all our injured players return, yet the suits sack Nige based on how we perform with practically a reserve team?. He was brought in to improve us & get us challenging for a playoff place this season, that was the whole point of his appointment. if there was any other reason for getting rid of Nige, that’s not what BT, or JL said, I’m just taking them at their word. Not making up things to fit, or assuming things, actually taking them at their word.
Normally I’d agree, but he’s been brought here to do a specific job he doesn’t have the luxury of being allowed to “bed in” if we aren’t at the very least challenging for a playoff place he will have failed his first objective.
Maybe next season LM can get the players playing his way and perhaps get some decent additions to massage John and Steve Lansdowns egos and have us challenging The way I see it is that there are at least 10 teams that are better than us at the moment
Who picked the team yesterday our new gaffer. so he drops mom last game and one of the better players this season in Sammy bell That went well -I hope he can see Weimann is finished and Mehmeti is miles of championship standards.
So was Pearson, he had 2.5 years to do it, failed miserably if we’re being honest, and you’re hanging this guy after 1 game, get real here Ashton. FFS!
But this is an upgrade according to JL -that side he put out was wrong and I hope he learnt a lot about some players very quickly Remember Mr L wants top six under our new gaffer.
maybe he is not fast enough! in the past has scored quite a few maybe LM IS WILLING TO SACRIFICE A FEW GAMES to get to know the players? He has a couple weeks to watch about 15 games of video and see where it all goes wrong! Also will be trying to sort out his OXFORD move to Bristol has just bought a house up there?? might benefit him to lodge with RR .... .. ONLY JOKING! Drive from OXFORD is not really straight forward via shortest route ... and longer way can be caught in traffic congestion
I’m not hanging anyone after one game, I’m just pointing out his remit, Nige was sacked because he was believed to be underperforming with this squad, LM was bought in to do better because BT & JL feel this squad is capable of top 6, logic therefore dictates he’s expected to achieve top 6. There’s no way of knowing after 1 game, as you rightly say, but thats the target JL & BT have set him. Nige inherited a squad that was bloated, the wage bill was enormous and we were heading one way and it wasn’t up. His remit was to steady the ship, avoid relegation, reduce the wage bill and change the culture at the club. Putting us in the position to rebuild and put the club in a place to start to challenge further up the table.
The remit for Nige was, as far as we know, as it was never stated was, to steady the ship in the first year, eighteen months. Yes, he inherited a squad that we could no longer afford, but that squad was better than this one, by a mile. Nige didn’t really get a tune from most of them, that his younger, less experienced predecessors did, so he let them them all go. It seems the mandate for the last year was to build a squad for challenging the top 6, clearly in the boards eyes, he hasn’t done that. The board aren’t going to come out and say the squad isn’t good enough, as what does that do to player morale, but for me, this is why Nige got sacked, his squad, and their performances (regardless of early league positions) do not give anyone (except maybe RR as he can see no wrong in NP) confidence of being in the top 6 this season, add to that his open digs at the board, the end was inevitable.
This seems to bear out my view that, Pearson's signings have been poor and not really added any saleable value to the club; hence he's sold the 'family jewels'. That said, this 'value' will go up or down based on league position, so isn't a really good indicator tbh. Also, it shows our squad is not as small as many have stated on here, it's pretty much on par with the whole division.
Seems it does not. If you do not provide data in forms of profit and loss you will end with a seems. If we do scrutinise ins and outs during Mr Pearson's time you will see a disproportionate level of sales versus reinvestment creating Mr Lansdown's egg. Nigel Pearson had a season where the expenditure was 0, nothing. You check figures transfermarkets ins and departures. This season's balance is + 17m. If you use the previous season its +10m. So plus 27m.
