Not a dig a Rosie's tactics but I thought we could have mixed up the formation today. Do we really need 2 DMs at home against a poor Huddersfield? As I've seen almost every home game this season, the pattern is slow start and then chaos at the end when we finally take the handbrake off and actually go for it. I know a win is a win, fully appreciate that. But we're a fickle bunch.. If that Delap shot doesn't go in most of us would be moaning about another boring, bang average performance at home. And that's what it was. Loads of the ball but didn't do enough with it. Hopefully we can improve a few areas in January and look more of a threat.
Wednesday were far poorer. Huddersfield came to defend and to frustrate us, with the hope of snatching a goal on the break or from a set piece. They weren't bothered about possession or attractive football. ....And, unlike Wednesday, it very nearly got them an away point.
No one wants to whinge at city here, we all want us to be successful no matter the manager or play style. It’s just frustrating when we play teams as awful as we did today and we have to scrape a win, and don’t mention the domination of possession, we didn’t do much with it.
The reason they were 'awful' is they put all their resources into clean sheeting us. It did take a bit of urgency to crack the nut in the end though. I accept that.
If we got the players in, then next season I’d like to be positive and say we’ll be in a higher league. Far too early to be talking about who will be here.
Wouldn’t say that’s the only reason they were awful, I read there forum befor the game and they said they’ve been like that since moore took over, saying he’s taking them down and they can’t wait for him to leave/get sacked.
Huddersfield had 7 defenders and a DM in their team, they put out a low block with good defensive organisation. They had no intention of going for 3 points. Today we needed someone find a way to unlock their defence. Philogene was stifled, but Morton was most likely with his excellent pinpointing passing, but fair play to Rosie for using Vinagre who had their fullback on toast for the last 10 minutes and ultimately provided the ammunition for the goal.
Yes and that was ages ago. The Wednesday game was much earlier in the season. Now the league is taking shape and Huddersfield where awful.
I think by that point we had a back 4 with Coyle at LB and Christie at RB. I think it more shows how effective the system can be with 2 capable wide men who can go past their full backs.
