I think Kimi was massively talented, and probably would've been a multiple champion if he'd driven at a time when his lifestyle was the norm, but he's an absolute party animal when his competitors were all clean living and focused. I think one of the reasons Rosberg won his title was because, after he won his 3rd and equaled Senna, Hamilton went on a celebratory bender and Rosberg dominated the early part of the following season.
The Haas hearing regarding the US GP and track limits has been postponed so the stewards can ‘independently consider the submission made’ Sorry, but as the stewards were the one who said Alex Albon didn’t transgress track limits then surely this should be looked at by stewards not involved in the original decision?
It was rejected today . Although the panel heavily criticised the way it currently done I do agree with you MB It should have been different people dealing with this not the original people ( I don’t know who did it ) F1: Haas appeal to change United States Grand Prix results rejected please log in to view this image By Andrew BensonChief F1 writer Last updated on 4 hours ago4 hours ago. From the section Formula 1 please log in to view this image Alex Albon finished ninth at the United States Grand Prix, 3.2 seconds ahead of Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg in 11th Formula 1's governing body has rejected a request by Haas to change the results of the United States Grand Prix. It was ruled there was "no significant and relevant new element that was unavailable to Haas" after the race. However, the stewards did determine that current policing of track limits is "completely unsatisfactory" and demanded changes. Haas' appeal was based on claimed track limits transgressions by several cars who finished ahead of theirs. Track limits controversies are common at a number of F1 tracks, especially Austria's Red Bull Ring, Losail in Qatar and the Circuit of the Americas in Austin. A statement rejecting Haas' appeal added: "The stewards find their inability to properly enforce the current standard for track limits for all competitors completely unsatisfactory and therefore strongly recommend to all concerned that a solution to prevent further reoccurrences of this widespread problem be rapidly deployed." It added: "Given the number of different circuits where significant track limit issues arose this season, acknowledging that the FIA in conjunction with the circuits have already made significant strides, further solutions should be found before the start of the 2024 season." The verdict added that track limits offences were "almost universally enforced" based on images from a fixed CCTV camera. Stewards found that the camera used to police track limits at Turn Six in Austin "did not meet [the required] standard". In this case, the Williams cars of Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant, Red Bull's Sergio Perez and Aston Martin's Lance Stroll were cited by Haas. All were claimed to have exceeded track limits at Turn Six on a number of occasions during the race but not penalised for it. The usual penalty for a series of track limits transgressions is five seconds added to a drivers' race time. For a right of review to be considered, it has to be established that there is significant and new evidence that was not available at the time the original decision was taken. Steward ruled that while the on-board camera footage of Albon's car was significant, it was not new or relevant. All the others failed to meet any of the thresholds, stewards ruled.
With the race to be starting at 10 pm local time (to cater for Europe ) the temperature in the desert could be as cold as 3 or 4 degrees C. Could be fun trying to warm up those hard tyres. Still, same for everyone just make the best of it.
Forcast is about 8 degrees Sunday night. Likely higher at 10pm as 8 degress is the lowest in the night.
Seems FOM and the teams still aren't warming up to Andretti and GM joining the grid, Seems the resistance may be to Andretti. GM saying that they either enter with Andretti or not at all. Seems stupid to want to block this entry imo. The more teams the better.
I agree . one or two more teams and at least 4 races less a year for me . I had read somewhere that M Andretti was going around trying to sweet talk some of the teams and Domenicali was not amused , in a big way . Maybe his dad should be in charge ? I also think the entry fee should go up from the current £200,000,000. As things have gone up a LOT !
FOM and the teams are a very tightly knit unit and are unwilling to allow any new players in easily. But not to welcome a new team onto the grid could just as easily backfire on them. Because it is American owned this may turn the fans stateside away from Formula 1 and leave in their droves. Sort of,why should we watch your artifcial racing if you can`t find room for one more team,we`ve got real genuine racing anyway jn Indy-car.
Yes F1 is still my first love in sport , but when it comes to racing AND fan involvement , Indy wins .
F1 is always my first love, but it doesn't even come close on terms of racing these days. It is almost impossible to predict the outcome of any event and regularly gets me out of my seat. It just feels like real racing. Like Push mentioned though, F1 has to be really careful if the teams are going to put their own interests above those of the sport, because people will switch off over time. It can't just be a closed shop when you have teams willing and ready to enter the sport.
The thing that gets me is that all the teams signed the Concorde agreement (the rules) which states that their can be up to 12 teams. So how do they feel they can argue against allowing an 11th team when they signed to allow up to 12 teams! Once again rules are rules so allow Andretti in and even another team to make 12. Sorry if their sponsorship and prize money is reduced but that's what they signed up to!
I agree , I follow F1 in the hope the magic returns . Rose tinted spectacles ? Probably yes , I’ve followed this sport since 1981 . One concern I do have ref the US , is F1 has a fan base , but it’s never really stayed . This drive to survive won’t be around forever and I’m sorry but 3 races is farcical . The powers that be may think the US fans are into F1 for the long run , I think they are in for a shock . as I said in another thread I want more teams , but am I fussed if there ends up being no American teams ? personally I’m not fussed . Canada has to stay though .
I completely agree that three races here is just ridiculous. I wouldn't mind so much if we were hitting tracks like Barber, Laguna Seca or Road American but we're getting fluff in Miami and Vegas. I know a few people here who have become interested in F1, but their interest seems to be fading.
Well I won't be watching Vegas as I've zero expectations of it and the timing is rubbish. miami is a complete joke
It's sad considering some of the great tracks here. I'm going to reserve judgement on Vegas, but I'm not expecting much other than a whole load of cheese.
I'd love to see laguna seca. I'd love to see them return to indiana. Austin is actually good. you can see the Vegas track already. it's all about the strip. they are going through the convention centre with a nothing sort of set of corners and then repeating the trick with another slow complex of nothingness where the new grandstands are the strip will of course look "fine" but it's a 6 lane highway thst used to be a terrible surface and covered in over walkways. I assume they are using one lane only? in any event it'll be what it is and the light and such I'm sure will look great down the strip and hide all the sleeze and hooker fliers stuck to the pavement lol. I suppose it'll be the only f1 track I will actually have driven on though.
The season is more or less done, so just enjoy the spectacle. I have been to Vegas but no desire to return. The race will likely be a procession. I am bored Let's see what next year holds.
