Badly missed Chair today & think with him out there we would’ve had more attacking options & probably won
Willock was at his best during the first part of the second half. We had a prolonged spell of pressure and he did beat a couple of players, even ran round their right back to put in a cross. He faded after that (as did we) but he is slowly regaining confidence and form.
Dykes shinned one towards the goal in the first half (I think it followed a corner) defender blocked/cleared it. Probably was going on target. Cant think of any others.
Dykes effort was the one and only according to the highlights. Boy was Sky Sports stretched to patch 2 minutes together.
A small thing but the names being read out before the game was moving. Then some absolute mongs forgot there was a silence and shouted as one would at the end of a minute’s silence. Then as usually happens some other attention-seeking mongs tried to make it an applause. It was moving though.
Manager after manager sees something in Dozzell that completely passes me by. We are desperate for a pivot to link up the play in central midfield so we can get the ball forward and create more chances. Instead we have a mime artist that spends 90 minutes discouraging any forward motion, forever pointing backwards and somehow rarely touching the ball himself despite occupying the centre of the pitch. Other than that waste of space there were some green shoots in particular the performances of Smyth and Kakay. We looked reasonably sound defensively with Cook in charge of Dunne. And Willock showed some signs of at least wanting to play again despite fading badly in the second half.
The Sky highlights are a struggle to watch I thought Willock was very good today I thought we passed it well 2nd half I thought we looked safe at the back A better Willock with Chair next game might create more
I guess that there are many positives, but the key issue is our current inability to score goals. As a credit, we managed to avoid a defensive mess-up to concede a goal and kept a clean sheet.
Haven't had time to watch the highlights. But I was there....and it was such an improvement on nearly everything served up by Ainsworth or Critchley. The players seemed to be happier in what they were being asked to do, although the fluency we had during Warburton is not there ( yet). And there was intent and desire. In addition El Cif is still looking at players obviously. Defensively, a clean sheet and really not too worrying after the first minute scare, yes I know it was only Bristol City. Clark-Salter will be a better option if/ when fit. So will Cannon, but got to say Kakay had a good game ( last bad cross excepted). I thought Smyth and Willock showed flashes of what we want, with Chair to come back a lot to build on. We did have a few half chances, and quite a lot of pressure but the last third great ball was lacking... and so we were grasping at straws. Dykes was anonymous ...Armstrong had more impact in his 10 minutes. It looked like a penalty to me...in real time. Marti is supposed to favour working with the forwards...he has a lot to work on. It is the " bleeding obvious " but if we can score goals we will be okay
