That’s the sort of thing we lack in the holding midfield roles. Tufan played a lot of games in his career as a holding midfielder. Downside is if you play him deeper, you lose his goal threat in and around the box.

Of course not, plenty of room for improvement in both making and taking chances. But despite that we're only outside the playoffs on goal difference, so I'm going to choose to be optimistic and celebrate a win. If that's OK.

To be fair, he tried to welly the ball into the net and wellied their payer instead. If he’d not been having injury issues before, he could still have taken himself out with that one, it looked fairly nasty.

He looked anything but a goal threat higher up today, game by passed him. Second half after dropping deeper he completely dictated the game

For all our possession we looked pretty toothless. Those with amber tinted glasses will say a win is a win but the udders were there for an absolute mauling.

I thought Huddersfield played anti football today by far the worst team I've seen for ages. I thought we played ok today. We certainly thoroughly deserved that win. Yes improvement is needed in areas but hey we are in the hunt for the playoffs.

    Onwards and upwards.

Deserved really. We struggle against teams that sit deep but persevered and got the right result. Credit to some good performances from Twine, Tufan and Delap. Fine cameo from Vinagre to add in that final piece needed late. Also credit to Rosenior for trying different things. Taking Seri off was a shock only because I never thought he would do it but it was right to do. Moving some pieces around to try new things as well late on

Not pretty. Arguably worst game of football I've seen here since Rotherham at home last year. Maybe even worse than that but improvement nonetheless given they found their way to victory. Bring on Swansea

Another game where the result was influenced by fine margins and could've gone one of two ways, without being a reflection of the performance.

We were obviously very dominant, and they obviously set up a certain way out of fear of what we could do to them. It was an extreme version of what a lot of teams do against us, and I think we'll continue to see more of it from away sides. Let's be honest, it almost worked today. We need to find ways of scoring earlier. With the football this team plays we should be able to get some comfortable home wins now and again. Currently we either draw or we just about grind out a 1-0. Today it was enough, but often an equivalent game will end in a draw.

We plugged away admirably, our football was good and we were smart with how we stretched them. Things like Allsop rushing out to receive a throw in on the halfway line because it gave us a spare man and allowed us to get the ball down and moving quickly. Most keepers wouldn't spot that opportunity but he was very switched on doing that, and those little things will all add up when you're probing against a tight defence, it tires them out and increases the chance of cracks appearing in their guard late on. Credit should (but won't) also go to Rosenior for throwing everything at it. Reading back through the thread I see people accused him during the game of playing for a draw, a tired cliche that never seems to go away, but his double sub was very attacking, taking off a centre back and our defensive midfielder, and the Vinagre one gave us the extra width that ultimately for us the winner. Nice to see Ruben finally playing a meaningful part too.

I'm almost becoming bored of discussing this City side, because we very consistently have the same good performances with the same limitations. Basically every game we build up well, pull of some great passing sequences, Delap drags us into some brilliant positions with his hold-up play, but we don't score or come close to scoring anywhere near as often as we should. I don't know what the answer is, but if LR can find it, this team will be a seriously good one. It's just that last bit around the penalty area that's missing. I really think people understate how good the rest of it is.

Hull manager Liam Rosenior told BBC Radio Humberside:

"Anything other than three points would have been a huge disappointment to us based on what we want to achieve this season and, secondly, on the fact we should have scored more goals.

"It's a recurring thing but the dominance and control we have in games, and the respect teams are starting to give us in this league, says a lot for where we've been and where we're hopefully heading.

"Hopefully that's a massive goal when we look back at it at the end of the season. We created so many good moments and (finishing them) is something we have to get better at, but I'm delighted we have got the three points to take into the international break.

"Fair play to Liam (Delap) because he's been outstanding. Good strikers keep getting chances and he took his goal really, really well."

Huddersfield manager Darren Moore told BBC Radio Leeds:

"We didn't allow Hull to get into the areas they wanted to get into, our shape off the ball was excellent and we limited Hull all afternoon to long-range efforts and minimal chances.

"Playing this way, the possession stats will be in their favour but it's the attempts on goal and clear-cut chances that were nullified.

"On the flip side I thought we used the ball better than we did against Watford, got into some threatening areas on the counter and caused them some problems.

"When you see the goal we conceded - the way the ball has ricocheted and who it's fallen to - it could have gone anywhere but it ended up with them and they've stuck it in the back of the net so it's a bitter one to swallow."

Phew.....that was tight...A goal was coming...Glad we got it...
Huddersfield fan in Walton Street club bought me a aftermatch beer. He was going to cash out on a 0-0 but changed it to 1-0 with City scoring in injury time....Top lad.

I don't know if they always play like that away from home or whether they just felt it was the best way to play against us. It was nearly effective though. They set up for a nil nil or to nick it with a breakaway goal. They got what they deserved in the end.

I think Liam will be relieved to get an injury time winner and I guess you have to say that his substitutions worked.

It was an instantly forgettable game in which we struggled to break down an ultra defensive team (they essentially played a back nine) but, hay ho, a win's a win.

We will see it a lot on this thread and on social media. Huddersfield are god awful yes. They're a mid table league 1 side at best with what they had. To their credit though they had a gameplan and they nearly executed it perfectly. Took Philogene out the game and dared us to find space elsewhere and there wasn't really a lot as they played 5 at the back. Time wasting from the 7th minute and a ref that had his whistle ready for a fart in the wind certainly didn't help.

I wouldn't say we looked toothless though. We had a few good chances in the second half. It was similar to the same fixture last year and I would argue we did better this time round trying to break the deadlock.

On the other hand unless they change the rules we will be out of it on goal difference.

Funny old game. Wednesday had 59% possession and lost 4-0. Ipswich had 37% possession and won 3-1.

Palace had 66% possession , 13 shots to Everton’s 8 and 9 corners to their 2. But Everton won 3-2. Palace’s xGs were better so that along with all the other stats would have some saying they were the winners. But again, the only stat that matters is BINs.

That's fine and of course we're all happy with the win. But 7 goals in 7 games since the opening day says we've got a problem scoring at home and until that's addressed I won't unfurl the bunting just yet.

I think our attacking play has improved but unfortunately still isn't translating into goals.
One issue I've noticed is how often we cross the ball awkwardly. On numerous occasions, instead of playing a nice pass for the over-lapper to run on to and fluently cross, we turn back and pass and then Coyle or Christie dug out a cross with their left foot?
