It's utterly appropriate. What better day to protest to try and stop a war?

Yes, I'd go along with that. Braverman and Sunak have a lot to answer for by using the march to further their political ambitions.

Indeed. Rather than just busily getting on with the killing of more people on the day you say “Never again”!

Someone a few pages said something that resonated with me. I always say I am ever so slightly right of centre...slipping off the fence so to speak, rather than on one side of it. However, I have strong 'left' wing rules on some things and pretty strong 'right' wing rules on others.

With regard to today, let me start by saying I am a total pacifist. IMO wars solve nothing, just sit down and talk about it. Idealist I know, but FFS why do you have to be aggressive and kill to get your own way or put your point across.

That said, IMO it is so important to remember those that have fallen to give us the freedom we have today. Without the ultimate sacrifice we wouldn't be sitting here now in our kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms or whatever typing away on our keyboards about stuff like this without fear of reprisal. IMO Remembrance Day will never be outdated or not relevant as we have to learn from the past to make a better future (idealism again). Unfortunately, we don't.

And soapbox put down for the day, it's MATCHDAY!!!!!

What kind of things do you have strong ‘right wing’ rules on? As has been said before these terms are sometimes difficult to define

Very mixed. My immigration stance is probably quite right wing, though not as much as the Tories. Lol my Dad has said I am the wrong complexion to hold these values. My view of the economy and taxation is definitely right of centre, though welfare I am definitely on the left. No one should be on the streets in 2023 (it ISNT a lifestyle choice) and those that can afford it should help pay for those that can’t. That said, it isn’t a crime to earn good money if you work hard and you should be able to keep it - I don’t agree with the ‘tax the wealthy they can afford it’ stance at all.

Yep very mixed up I know. Also I am an atheist and don’t believe the n wars or violence to solve problems.

lol with all these conflicting views a shrink would have a field day with me.

    Edit

My immigration stance is that we need to control it and have quotas. Those that want to immigrate have to show that they can contribute to the country and they have something to offer. They must also embrace our culture - they don’t have to lose their identity, but become British. This is coming from the son of Italian and Indian immigrants.

Asylum seekers I am mixed on. We have to give them refuge, but they contradict the above.

If peace was the intent of the organisers then I’d be with you. Incidentally, one of the organisers is a former Hamas leader and lives in a help to buy property in London, on the borders of one of the biggest Jewish communities in the country.

Wanting a temporary ceasefire is not necessarily the same as wanting peace. If it was, they’d be marching for the release of hostages surely?

The National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph is held on Sunday. There’s no March in London on that day.

Today is Armistice Day, the anniversary of the day in 1918 when the guns fell silent and the killing stopped. What could be more appropriate than calling for an armistice, on armistice day?

I find it something of a concern that a large and ever growing section of the public misconstrue the purpose of remembrance as a glorification of war, rather than an opportunity for the sober contemplation of it’s horrors.

Agree that the hostages seem an element of this latest conflict which is overlooked in the calls for peace.
Whilst Hamas continue to hold these hostages it gives Israel an excuse to continue the bombardment of Gaza.

I agree with the principle. But again, Armistice means mutual putting down of weapons or a truce. The organisers of these marches have publicly declared that they don’t want that. So who are the ones really using it as a disguise?

I wouldn’t say ‘excuse,’ personally. But if they released the hostages I couldn’t imagine the US supporting the continued strategy. So it would lead to peace and reduction in loss of life. But neither of those things correlate with Hamas’ objectives.

    Anyway, match day! COYS

I'm concerned for my daughter, she's marching and as above there are alt right, hooligan groups and also Hamas supporting militants seeking to disrupt the peaceful intent of the organisers.

Makes me proud, all those good British people, exercising their democratic rights to be utter ****s. We've always been good at producing ****s as a nation, and when our leadership are in that category their footsoldiers are never far behind

Very courteous of Yaxley and his disciples to come and flaunt their WW2 Runners up medal in London.

Very nice of Suella to invite them to proceedings.

This is another example to add to the book of Home Secretary failure.
