Horrible experience in the pub tonight being surrounded Chelsea ****s, most of whom have probably never been to a game. Entertaining game though - low on quality, high on incident. VAR can **** off.

The game was exactly what the TV people like. Lots of incidents, sending off, loads of goals, VAR decisions loads of non goals, fights, fouls.

A perfect game for the guy down the pub maybe football isn't for fans anymore

    I disagree.
Me and my lad love good football, played on the floor etc, but we absolutely love games like last night's.
    Great fun.

I enjoy the spectacle of the game too ( until Chelscum won obviously)

How much of the total chaos was caused by VAR I wonder

Get rid of VAR and I agree with you entirely.

I was in favour of VAR, but it's proving to be a chaotic farce, operated by buffoons, aided and abetted by incompetent referees.
Just be careful what you wish for, as there was just as much bad feeling and disagreement concerning decisions before it was introduced.
Last night's mayhem was largely due to Spurs not coping with playing Chelsea, as usual.

Amazing how other sports seem to manage it but football and all its money can’t get the right balance.

For me it gets ridiculous when offside decisions are called on the millimetres of toenails. It should be on where the torso is and the benefit of doubt given to the attacker if a marginal call. I’d have thought it quite simple to get a quick decision that way.

This new practice of keeping flags down and letting play commence, then disallowing a goal because somebody looked at someone else in a funny way 43 seconds earlier is ruining the game.

Let the ref or lino make the call and the game flow. Only use VAR if a goal’s been scored and the ref wants to check its validity.

    Or something.

It’s easier with some sports - rugby and cricket are more naturally stop start with set piece plays and pauses in the action. Perhaps American football is the epitome of this, where you spend hours in the stadium to see one hour of action. But everyone knows what to expect, and the video decisions are usually right.

One of the big attractions of football is its speed, flow and simplicity. VAR is really ****ing it up. I’m glad we don’t have it in the Championship, though I would like the reffing to be better. The clearest comparison I can think of is ice hockey, a stunningly fast game which is virtually non stop, and is also pretty simple. They know that this is a key aspect of the sport and they don’t even pause for getting subs on, certainly not for endless video reviews. They trust the umpires, who can earn up to $400k a year. Premier League (an even richer sport) pays its refs about £70k a year.

As they say Sb, pay peanuts and you get monkeys. Maybe they need a time limit on VAR. If they can’t make a decision in 45 seconds then the referees call stands and get on with it. If it takes that long to analyse it then it must be within the judgement of the human capability of the ref.

And refs should definitely be paid more than they are - all that they are put through they should be better rewarded, as well as encouraging others to come into the profession and reducing corruption possibilities. Then we might get better refs down through the league too.

It’s proven to be no good rugby league either.
You can have a dozen experts watching it and they still stuff it up. Aussie league has proven it.

    Let the ref call it.
Back the tv cameras away and stop showing 10 million slow mo replays.

"though I'd like the refereeing to be better"......

    That's why VAR was introduced.
It needs simplifying or else it should be scrapped.

Yes, Harry is very, very, very expensive. ( over 400.000£ / week) but he is also deadlly effective…i believe he has scored well over 20 goals in all matches he has played for Bayern Munich this season…

Probably 30x what Dykes is on so I’d say he’s good value.
