I agree it’s not ideal - even over a season. Too many variables and too small a volume. The xg one is a bit better as it accounts for likelihood of scoring a shot. But still doesn’t account for whether the striker actually hit it properly in the right place. Neither measure is perfect. Both are better than ‘number of saves’ or number of goals conceded - which some like to use for reference. Thing with Mes? It’s been more than a season.
Up to two games back sky reporter said Meslier had more clean sheets than anyone in championship. He has since had another against Leicester where he had a big say in winning us two points
...and how many shots has he faced in those clean sheets. He's probably the most protected keeper in the division.
To be fair to you at least you've waited the whole weekend before starting the Meslier out campaign again
In football there's a good reason why the back 5 (keeper + back four) are often referred to as a unit and that's becasue they are so dependent on each other to perform well. This season that unit is not only starting to look very solid defensively but also our overall performance as a team depends on how they perform in possession to both build attacks from the back and also have control of the game. When this is done well it leads to less chances against and the whole team benefits from how that back 5 performs as a unit. Meslier's contribution overall needs to be appreciated and understood a lot more before we start to castigate him for rather meaningless statistics when compared to results.
Champions League can fook off tonight as hopefully Rotherham can get something at home to the Tractor Boys and actually their home form is pretty good so why not. Will be keeping a close eye on the Millers keeper seen as our head scout Emu is recommending an offer in the 3 to 4 million pound range. Hopefully he's right because if he is decent then these are the sort of players we should be signing. Proven at a reasonable level but young with plenty of upside. The Jamster's own player to watch is Huddersfield Town's No 7 Delano Burgzorg, a 24 year old Dutch/Suriname winger/striker. Out of contract in the summer of 2024 and so should be available at a fairly reasonable price.
From BBC Sport Well, well, well. Leif Davis is crowded out on the Ipswich left, Fred Onyedinma picks his pocket and drives down the right before delivering a beautiful low cross to the far post where the Millers' record signing Sam Nombe slides in to score his first goal for his new club.
1-1 Really poor defending of a set piece from Rotherham which left the keeper with no chance from an unchallenged shot from the edge of the box. Meslier might have got there though
1-1 HT. Enjoyable first half and Rotherham are still in this. One shot on target each so both keepers 100% concession rate and are therefore crap....err according to some
Rotherham keeper has come and claimed 3 high ball but to be fair they were floated in and fairly easy. Distribution wise there isn't anything to report as Rotherham don't play out from the back so goal kicks, pass backs and any ball in hand all go long. That's not to say he can't do it, but as his play currently it's contrary to our style we'd need to know he's capable.
That's the question mark on him. He's pretty aggressive at coming and dealing with things though and I like that. Ipswich score a lucky winner.....and Rotherham have equalised as I type.
