Bristol City appoint Oxford United boss Liam Manning as manager https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/sport/...oint-oxford-united-boss-liam-manning-manager/
'Terrific opportunity' - Liam Manning's first words as new Bristol City head coach The former West Ham youth coach has been the Robins No1 target since the sacking of Nigel Pearson https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/liam-manning-bristol-city-head-8889439
Bit underwelming but whose to know, for me needs to be tactically astute with the players at his disposal and needs to hit the ground running, especially after the shock and unpopular departure of NP..
It does feel like he won’t get a honeymoon period because we weren’t unhappy with the guy he’s replacing, and to justify his appointment will need to do better than Nige, whom most of us believe would have achieved top 10 without any additions, if he gets money that NP was denied, then he needs to achieve top 6, that’s a tall order.
I want this guy to succeed, of course he has to prove his worth but he has inherited a settled squad, we are in the top half of the league, injured players are returning to the squad, Ross McCrorie has nearly recovered, will miss Nige but we must move on, transfer window is coming Tinman and Jon the plumb have both waffled on about funds being available , what's not to like?
I’m very happy with this appointment, Sorry to see NP go but his contract was not going to be renewed, he’s unwell, making an early change gives nige an opportunity to recover whilst having his contract paid up. Don’t think the Suits trusted him in another Transfer Window. Hopefully see a team play with a more forward thinking approach instead of backwards/sideways play. Happy to give this guy a chance!
Time will tell if it turns out to be a good appointment. For me, I didn't want another dinosaur, so happier to get a young hungry manager on his way up, rather than one his way down.
I think some money will be released in Jan, it's a question of how much. Clearly the board didn't trust Nige's transfer strategy, which is ironic, as he signed players mainly from L1 which is probably why they thought that, yet it's where the board went for our new manager....
It was on the cards we would get 6 points from SW & QPR scraped first 3 and should get 1 or 3 from next ... say 1 or 3 as Leeam .. Manning should get a little bit of extra effort from the players as they vie for a place in the starting line up
I see it differently, we are better away from home, & think we always had a better chance this game than home to Weds, first game under the new manager makes it harder imo, uncertainty is not always a positive emotion. Would Agree if I believed any of our players coasted previously, but honestly I don’t think any of this present group did.
When you are searching for a new manager you need to look as low in the league as is possible and then hire them with false hope and promises. Low and behold look what we got in our exhaustive search and I, like many others I'm sure, will not be anywhere near excited as we should be and the main reason is that we've down this same road and always ended up back at the start. I bet there's a smug grin in BS3 and Guernsey today as the suits have won the game of spot the glaring lack of commitment towards our beloved team (again I may add) and now I suppose they expect the Champions League in 3 to 4 years. Another lamb to the slaughter is the order of my day but on the other hand I wish Liam all the best in his new job and the only advice I can offer him is to bow when he says yes. Success is probably off the cards because it would appear to me that the only people that want that cloud hanging over us is not the Lansdowns but we supporters, and we can't have that can we?.
I've just watched the first LM conference and the guy to me came across very well, a very approachable guy, talked sense, obviously respectful of Nige, rated our club and the fans very highly, pressed all the right buttons, a real change from Nige in personality, now it all depends on results and performance before real judgements can be made, great start, good impression.
I wonder if any of you have read up on him? Like I said the other day. Rob Edwards 15 months ago at FGR Keiran McKenna snapped up by Ipswich, now look at him. Steven Schumacher a few wanted from Plymouth We got a hungry young manager, who got MK playing really well till they decided to sell all their best players. Turned Oxford last season from relegation form to safety to 3 points from top of the table this season. Asked to go to New York a few years ago to set up the academy over there. Part of the City Group which is owned by Man City owners and their clubs, so can tap in with all those coaches. Would not surprise me if that group is just watching for future coaches like loaning style reversed. I’m happy we got him and looking forward to see how he does here. Because if he got Oxford promoted this season he would have probably been out of our reach.
He says he was only approached yesterday so I'm assuming he doesn't know much about us or the players... Seems to me, it will take while for him to get familiar with the set-up etc.. Unless he's some sort of magician we will have to give this latest appointment time...
That’s why the board pulled the trigger when they did, as the forthcoming international break will give him chance to assess the squad and work with them.
