In situations like this there's usually been a better option waiting in the wings. Blair's Labour, and even Cameron's Conservatives, God help us, looked a much better bet than the dying farts of a clapped out government. I don't think we can say that now. Labour seem determined to sabotage the massive gift that the Tories are handing them. It's like replacing Grayson with Parkinson - you're just hoping that the act of change in itself will create a positive reaction rather than having any real evidence that they're any better.

Just been reading about the MP who's 'resigned to pursue a ceasefire' by Israel. I totally understand his position but can't see how his resignation will help his cause. Surely being a duly elected British MP carries more influence which could help him. This isn't a war, it's revenge and punishment ... the vast majority of the dead are innocent civilians, not soldiers.
It is such a terrible situation in Gaza at the minute and as I have said before I dont claim to understand the rights and wrongs of it. It just looks appalling and has done since the terrorist attack which was shocking. I think Starmer has done a very good job on the issue so far. I know he put his foot in his mouth early on but I am not so sure that is the problem it is made out to be. He is trying to keep in step with the majority of UK allies in not demanding a ceasefire. I think this is where some Labour politicians are unhappy and their constituents are unhappy. Councillors quitting is one thing, front benchers another. The MP Hussai said he has quit to be able to more strongly call for a ceasefire. If the news is to be believed Labour front benchers have been told they have not to support a call for a ceasefire or they cant stay in post. Maybe this is what Hussain means. Again according to the media others may follow suit, depends on how much faith you put in the media sources I suppose (not much by me). If there is a vote on a ceasefire next week, and it looks possible, then it will be interesting to see whether Starmer gives them free vote or not. That could be a tipping point in terms of more resignations.
